Hey all,
I'm considering buying a USB Audio interface from thomann.de, can anyone
reccommend one that's under 100 or 200 euro that works under linux?

Terratec Phase26usb runs well and offers up to 6 outs, unfortunately
unbalanced, but good for 99.- euros.

I just bought one of these:

and it works fine, one of the downs is that it's a bit noisy when you
use it for both in and out at the same time, I usually use my internal
sound card for playback when i use it, another downer is that it's a bit
over your budget.
But you can take it anywhere and record in good quality, the build in
Mic is far better than I had hoped fore when ordering, I love the thing ;)

Hi Andrew,
I own a Edirol UA-25 and am very happy with it, alas it does not seem to
be available from thomann.de.
The ESI MAYA 44 USB is nice and works with Linux; but has no MIDI and no
XLR in; Note that you can only use 4 I/O simultaneously.
Practically every USB-1.1 interface (with few exceptions) works with
Linux; a list of supported devices is available at:

Before you buy, check `cat /proc/interrupts` if your computer has a IRQ
for an USB with no other devices on the same line. Recent Kernels have
gotten much better at handling multiple devices on the same IRQ, but
you'll have less things to tweak and certainly a lower chance to
encounter xruns (aka drop-outs) if you can plug the sound-card in a port
with no other devices on it.

Indeed, even with the built-in phantom power it is. The Hi-Z switch is
also very handy; and it has pretty good pre-amps. On top of that the
device is very robust. All in all it's IMHO one of the best /cheap/
sound-cards.
Compared to the UA-25 the UA-25 EX CW also includes an analog
compressor. Given that it only has one knob (for the threshold), I doubt
it's very useful. FWIW the limiter on the UA-25 is similarly useless.
The new ground-Lift feature seems handy, though.

Otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. One flaw I noticed on my particular
piece is that when I turn the output all the way down, at the end the
right channel goes quiet first. This appears only on the very quietest
settings, so it's not a real issue for me.

New subject: "Swissonic Easy USB" anyone? [Was: Re: USB Audio interfaces for linux?]
Hallo,
while browsing Thomann myself, I stumbled accross the "Swissonic Easy USB"
http://www.thomann.de/de/swissonic_easy_usb.htm which seems to be a USB 2.0
version of a similar Firewire device (also available branded as Phonic).
What's interesting about this is that is has balanced stereo in and out, and
most of all the price: Thomann sells it for 29 Euro! That's cheap enough to buy
two and sponsor an ALSA developer with the second one. :)
Has anyone any experience with this device? Note that I'd be interested in the
USB version, my laptop doesn't do Firewire.
