greetings!
i'm looking for jack-compatible meters which have a peak indicator which
does not fall off but can be reset while the meter is still running. as
far as i can tell, none of the available options will do that:
ecasignalview: holds stats but can't be reset while running.
ardour: meter falloff "OFF" setting doesn't work - the peak hold still
falls off after some time (also, the peak indicator doesn't change color
at 0, so it's hard to tell, at a glance, that you've peaked.... and, while
recording, channel meters never go over 0). there is the numerical peak
indicator, which does what i want, but you cannot reset all channels with
one command.
meterbridge: falloff is not adjustable.
hdspmixer: "release rate" setting does not include "off".
please let me know if i'm incorrect about any of the above, or if there's
another available meter i've overlooked.

Hey, you just added the "reset all with one command" requirement
just to be picky! Seriously though, the numerical peak indicators
do actually change to red when >= 0db. So ardour comes the closest
to satisfying your need. A few feature requests should do it (peak hold forever,
and global numeric peak reset).

Feature request, it's about time it got better.

not quite..... on input strips, while recording (when the signal never
goes over because it's limited by your A-D), the numerical peak display
only goes to "-0.0" and never turns red. at least that's what i'm seeing
here (0.9beta28).
and, yes, i did change requirements mid-stream, by adding "reset ALL".

I guess it depends on your A-D, as to what it gives you for full-scale.
Some might not ever actually reach numeric full-scale. Either
that or I should change the test from >= 0.0f to >= -0.0f, or
see if avoiding the conversion to db for comparison purposes might
help.

live recording. I use it all the time on the HD and DAT
recorders I use to record classical recitals here at school
(usually the applause in between pieces clips like nothing else,
if I have my levels set right).

There are a ton of improvments that should be made to meterbridge, but i'm
50% of the way thourgh adding OpenGL support for improved quality and
lower CPU load, and its not in a releaseable state :(
If there are any GL hackers out there who like to help I'd be very happy
to hear from you.
