I must admit this is a issue I wanted to raise for a while now...
For those of you who haven't heard, there has been a very long debate
on whether replyto munging was or wasn't a god practice. Each side had
a reference paper stating a number of pros and cons :

The fight between Simon Hill and Chip Rosenthal finaly ended in 2001
when a new RFC obsoleting RFC 822 appeared, RFC2822.

I strongly consider turning munging off on LAD and LAU. I know this
might start some flames, but isn't it good free software philosophy to
stick to the standards, especially when it comes to a recently
reviewed RFC ?
If someone can give me an argument that is not present in the 3
previously linked documents stating why we need to munge our headers,
I'll turn munging off next week.

I used to like reply-to munging. But I've come to think that the risk
of accidentally posting private stuff in public greatly outweighs the
convenience of munging and the hassle of occasionally posting a
private reply by accident. And you can get convenience by using a
non-broken client.
(For example, Mutt users can add to .muttrc:
lists linux-audio-dev(a)lists.linuxaudio.org
lists linux-audio-user(a)lists.linuxaudio.org
... and get in the habit of using "L" to reply to the list, or just
plain old "g" to reply-all.)

While my post is used as an example, I would prefer to have it left on. I
can't count how many times I have to resend things I accidentally did not
send to the entire list on lists without it, and those are just the things I
caught. My only real problem is because I have multiple lists on the same
account, just remembering which is which.

where I accidently sent a private reply. So far I've never sent a
personal message to a list by accident. I greatly prefer the way it's
set up now, automatically replying to the list.

not send to the entire list on lists without it, and those are just the
things I caught. My only real problem is because I have multiple lists
on the same account, just remembering which is which.

I've had endless occasions (and yes, I do use mutt)
where I accidently sent a private reply. So far I've never sent a
personal message to a list by accident. I greatly prefer the way it's
set up now, automatically replying to the list.

The standard answer here is: so what? Sending a private reply does no
harm, but sending something private to the list does.
So far I've never sent a personal message to a

You may not, but people do. Even on this list it has happened. LAD and
LAU are rare among technical lists I'm on in that it sets its own
reply-to-list: ardour-* don't, pd-* don't, fluid doesn't, alsa-*
don't, debian-lists *of course* don't.
But well, I'm also only repeating arguments that are half a decade
old. But the RFC-argument was new to me, and it's a good one.
