Hi,
I am using an application which enumerates the ALSA supported
hardware devices and offers them as input / output devices.
Now, I would much rather have that app output to Jack. The app does
support OSS, but only native OSS, it does not offer OSS support when
ALSA is available, else I could have used oss2jack. Now I wonder, is
there something like alsa2jack? Something that appears as a physical
soundcard in ALSA, yet feeds into Jack?

There is the Plug:JACK interface in ALSA. I've used it before, but
since I've acquired a RME Multiface II and cannot use it.
You'll find info on the alsa wiki and in the official alsa
documentation.
There are some docs on it. What I did was: (/etc/asound.rc)
pcm.jackplug
{
type plug
slave { pcm "jack" }
}
pcm.jack
{
type jack
playback_ports
{
0 alsa_pcm:playback_1
1 alsa_pcm:playback_2

IT actually enumerates _hardware_ sound cards - nothing in .asoundrc
is recognized by this app.

Broken app. Every sane ALSA app should use the pcm device "default" by
default and should allow the user to enter any pcm device string. It
might additionally provide a list of devices from which the user might
choose (for convenience).
Write a bug report ;)

I don't understand this statement. Are you saying the app works with
native OSS drivers but not with ALSA's OSS emulation?
This isn't a closed source app is it?

The app recognizes the superior sound architecture. When ALSA is
detected, OSS is not offered.
It is open source, but I have little time to debug it. It uses
h323's pwlib.

hi all ,
I am new to Linux Audio world.Can any one help me in the following
questions.
I am having an audio engine with MIDI PLAYER and MIDI SYNTHESIZER which is
running in real time mode . It means that
the player layer send the MIDI events directly to the synthesizer that are
contained in the current frame. There is no time information in the events
and there is no bufferization.
Q1)Does ALSA can support the "real-time mode" ?
OR
Does it support a sequenced mode ? i.e.,does the player/parser have to send
time
information to the ALSA library?
Can any one help me out.

It supports both modes. You can send midi to another app
for immediate delivery, or you can schedule it for later.

If we have to transfer some big data buffer from player to
synthesizer is there a way to route those data
appropriately through ALSA library?
