I've finally done a good enough job of cleaning up the 'smeck' patch (seen
at Pd conventions 2007 and 2009) to consider it releasable. This patch takes
a 6-channel signal from a separated guitar pickup (such as the Roland GK series)
and does a variety of cool things to it. Smeck is available from:

This reminds me of another issue of polyphony for synth, that is given
by the Oberheim Matrix-1000 and the Synclavier. There's a special kind
of mono mode, called 'G' (for the Oberheim). Each of the six voices is
allocated to it's own MIDI channel, so every voice has got it's own
pitch bend. Anyway, it's one sound related to some behaviour as far as I
know, it's not simply like playing 6 monophonic synth. Unfortunately my
Guitars don't have a MIDI Pickup.

Have you ever thought about playing the guitar similar to the way a
Trautonium is played?
Music shouldn't be acrobatic feat, some people know how to play scales
and chords, but they are to dull to make music, listen to rubbish like
Dream Theatre.
If you're creative, you can use a guitar even if you aren't a guitarist.
The advantage of strings is, that you have more impact to the sound by
your fingers, as if using a keyboard. You don't need to be a guitarist
to have impact to the sound for experimental music. For 'normal' music I
can't see any reason to have effects. I only need two effects, an
overdrive and a compression sustainer to increase the sustain, when
playing with the bottleneck, but without overdrive. Sometimes in
addition some other effects are beautiful.
I like guitar synth for experimental music only.
Btw. if you will practise tow years, you are able to play as fast and
clean as the Dream Theatre guy, even if you don't have any talent. I
guess you can learn how to play guitar in half a year, with or without
talent, if you have talent, than you only will be able to play a little
bit better. I guess guitar is one of the easiest to learn instruments,
only the beginning give the impression that playing keyboard might be
easier to do, because playing chords the first weeks seems to be
impossible, while you don't have such problems when playing chords on a
keyboard, but this is a wrong impression.

This was what I did. I wonder what's wrong with you Paul? Not because
you agitate against me, but because you very often agitates against
people, even with absolute normal questions and again and again you are
whining because you earn less money than other coders do. Pleas stop

nobody force you to read my mails or the mails of the 20 to 30 other
people you don't like. You're good in slaughtering other people, but

trackers on MIDI guitars had some 250 msecs latency IIRC, now those are
a real challenge to play. ;-) (Robert Fripp did it, though.)
I actually have one of those hexagonal pickups (a Korg ZD3) retrofitted
on a Fender Stratocaster, but it uses a custom interface. Does anyone
here know how to extract the six individual audio signals from these?

I saw somewhere you could get a converter from that (19-pin?) to the
modern (12-pin?) connector, which can either be split or you can buy
a rather expensive box to get 6 outs. I'll try to find where that was.
I've got a lovely Godin with hex out and I am trying to find a friend who
is good with soldering to make a split cable for me (no luck yet...).

for which you

From there I guess you can either wire your own
splitters or get a 24-13 pin

be fine, some not. I would test them on a brad board, maybe this side on

Yes, that's what I meant. :) The ZD3 is supposed to be similar to the
Roland GK-1 (http://www.joness.com/gr300/korgz3.htm), but the pin
assignments (24 pins) are not exactly the same, so I'm not sure whether
those adapters you mention will fit.
Of course I could just take the MIDI output with pitch bends on six MIDI
channels and translate that back to the frequencies. The tracking of the
Korg Z3 is pretty good, and it has an astonishing low latency for a
device of its age. But I thought that it would be cool to actually get
at the audio signals themselves, and not having to carry around that
bulky Z3 unit all the time.

This is pretty easy. All Roland GK compatible systems have six audio
signals on their outputs, the conversion to MIDI is done in an external
device, so just replace the interface with 6 preamps and a power supply,
and you're done.
One remark: The famous GR-300, used by Pat Metheney, is no
MIDI-converter, but works with the audio signals, similar to smeck.

In a music store I played Voodoo Chile on a guitar synth in the middle
80ies, the synth sound was played with a latency that might be something
near to 250 msecs for the lower strings, the high strings had better
latency. De facto playing was impossible.
As far as I remember Buckedhead played a well working guitar synth for a
project with Bill Laswell and Bernie Worrell on one of the Praxis
