As some of you already know I am the occasional webmaster/docs
maintainer for ALSA.
I have been planning some additions to the site to make it more
accessible but before I jump into anything that could be considered a
facelift I would like to get some opinions from y'all.
Can you tell me what things you would like to have on the website that
are not already there? What things have you noticed while using it that
are not user friendly?
I would like to add a database for some kind of card rating system.
What would you consider valuable things to rate a card against?
All opinions will be considered so don't hold back ;-]

Apparently upon the beginning of the barrage, the donkey broke
discipline and panicked, toppling the cart. At that point, the rockets
disconnected from the timer, leaving them strewn around the street.
Tethered to the now toppled cart, the donkey was unable to escape before
the arrival of U.S. troops.

Hi all!
I used to play MIDI with AWE-64 with 24 MB RAM extention.
So I could use the SF2 soundfonts.
Unfortunately, the AWE-64 requires an EISA slot.
Could please enybody recommend a PCI successor of the
AWE64 which allows loading of SF2 soundfonts.
Please do not recommend Audigy! This is a lie! The
Audigy ALSA driver accidentally drops some
tones. This is a known bug, but
apparently nobody is willing to fix this
See.

Furthermore it ignores reverbation and
chorus instructions.
Please do not recommend FluidSynth. To avoid
misundersandings: Actually FluidSynth is a good
software. But it produces wrog envelopes for
strings and clarinets. The envelops are
like xylophone (or so ...)
I alreay mentioned this problem on this list.
But without success.

It's all in the noise when the software license costs in the $50000
range...

I checked and I'm actually using 0.5.19 if that makes any difference. Is there a tar ball of the more recent versions that will compile that I can test and see if the problem is fixed? The 0.5.31 version from CVS produced errors when I tried to build it.

I'll try to build 0.3.8 later today and see what happens.

I'm up for doing a GDB session. However, as I've never personally had need for using GDB before, you would probably have to walk me through it.

Hi, I'm on my first attempt at midi on Linux. I'm using MusE 0.6.0pre5
in Mandrake 9.1. I think I can start jack in a root console, but I guess
for a simple test it isn't necessary, so I start muse and I get the GUI.
I managed to record some notes but if I press play on the transport I
don't hear anything. I'm using a sblive platinum and, for setting levels
I'm using Alsa-Mixer GUI and for connections I'm using Alsa Patch Bay. I
have been tweaking everything and haven't got any sound. It surely works
since I can use XMMS and also I can load and hear midi tracks on KMidi.
In my MusE Midi Port Table I have port 1, generic midi, going to the
device EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART) and the state shows as OK. Trying with
different settings I have seen a message about DEVICE PLAYING or similar
but can't remember what I did.
On MusE the black activity meter is moving and mute cell has a green LED
(?) on, I don't know if its on why I see such activity. But anyway I
don't get any sound with it turned on or off.
Any help would be appreciated,
Eduardo

I think I'm using 0.5.23. I'm away from home right now and my machine is offline so I will have to check later to make sure. I tried to compile 0.5.31 but I couldn't get it to build. Jamin will register itself to jack and then immediately die from a segmentation fault. Oddly enough, if I specify the input and output ports, it will fail to connect to the ports but at least it won't seg fault.
JackEQ seg faults no matter what I do. I was using version 0.3.7.
For what it's worth, I'm using:
swh-plugins 0.4.3
Jack 0.90.1 (posix shm)
Also, kind of unrelated, I just realized today that the newer versions of Jack no longer give me monitors.

Hi all...
on /., there is this story:

The original articl is there:

And there is this quote, making me feel warm and fuzzy :)
"So the team set out to develop tone-generation software running on a stock PC. Windows was quickly rejected as unreliable, and development was done on the Linux operating system. "
Well... not ready?

Everything on my machine is compiled with gcc 3.2
