This is something that has bugged me ever since I built my Linux DAW.
When I boot up, when I start jack, when I open a web page with
Flash, when I get a licq message -- anything that uses my audio
driver, I hear a fairly loud low-end pop.
Is this common? Is it a known issue I can fix? I figure it's a
problem somewhere in the following (backwards) chain:
Delta1010LT hardware (SPDIF out) -> Delta1010 alsa driver -> alsa
library -> jack.
I suspect it's not jack since it happens with other audio output as
well. I don't remember, but I don't think it was happening when I
was using the analog outs. Of course I can check that pretty quickly
when I get my Linux box hooked back up tomorrow.
Thanks,
Greg

I tried just 2.6.9-rc3-mm3 and I got it to boot, although kudzu pops
up but I cannot use my keyboard. Even to log in; I have to hit the
power button!
I thought I turned every possible keyboard on (AT and XT), as the
.config is copied from my current kernel: 2.6.9-rc3.
My config:
http://www.aproximation.org/application/kernel.config-2.6.9-rc3-mm3
Has anyone else had this problem: e.g. no keyboard on 2.6.9-rc3-mm3?
I thank you for whatever help you can offer!

I applied the patch and the kernel built, but like 2.6.9-mm2-VP-S9 it
crashed before it could load. The last bit of the message was a lot of
what I guess are frame pointers, but there was a few lines that had info.
For example an RIP message having to do with add_preempt_count+16
But it all ended with Aieee...
I have yet to get any VP kernel to run on my x86_64. I suppose I should
try just the mm3 or mm4 patches without the VP portion, so that is what
I will do.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for the help!

Hi,
QjackCtl 0.2.12a has been released.
Some fix on the audio connections client port sorting is about to justify
this immediate release.
Thanks goes this time to Fons Adriaensen, for pointing this out.
Enjoy!

Hi all,
With the talk of text based studios (great site btw, Julien) I thought I'd
mention http://www.toplap.org which is devoted to the practice of programming
music and art live, in front of an audience.
Ok, so it's not strictly linux based, but the applications used include Alex
Mclean's feedback.pl: http://www.perl.com/pub/a/2004/08/31/livecode.html lots
of supercollider, using jitlib:
http://swiki.hfbk-hamburg.de:8888/MusicTechnology/566 and some stuff I've
written: http://www.pawfal.org/Software/fluxus/ which are all running on linux.
The text based nature of the interfaces tend to lead to more flexibility
rather than less. The idea is to project the code as part of the performance
to allow the audience to see the relationship between the code and the music -
and remove the "are they just checking email" syndrome :) )
See also the paper "Live Algorithm Programming and a Temporary Organisation
for its Promotion" here: http://www.toplap.org/?Read_Me_Paper
cheers!

Well, I don't really want *cheesy*. ;-) Maybe I can
play around with varying amplitude, since that would
sound more natural.
>While you're at it, there is nothing like the "deep
space" very lowpass

Sorry dude, maybe it's the end of the workday, but I
don't really get the joke if there is one. I didn't
think sound waves travelled in space. Are you talking
about background radiation from the BigBang translated
into analogous sound? Sorry I'm being dense. Cast
not your pearls before swine, especially brain-dead
swine.
Cheers,
Mark

That is poopy, but Im patient, at least while I have another possibilty
like T3...
Except that I dont...
I can *almost* build 2.6.9-rc3-mm3-VP-T3
It links almost all the way except for this error:

ld: BFD 2.15.90.0.3 20040415 assertion fail ../../bfd/linker.c:619
