I've got a Tascam US428, with 4x2 audio in/out 2x2 Midi in/out
and it's a DAW control surface. All in all, a pretty sweet unit.
But I can't get it to work. It works fine until I start jack, at
which point my computer hangs. (sometimes a few minutes after I
start jack) If I run xmms with the alsa plugin, it works for a
little bit, then the audio stops working, but at least it doesn't
hang my system. A lot of people seem to have it working pretty
smoothly, though, so I might be sort of an isolated case. If
anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks,
on an unrelated note, does anyone have mutt configured to reply
to this list an a sane and easy manner?

I am trying to compile Muse .7.0 on Mandrake 10.
Everything goes well
but at the end I recieve an error:

If anyone could please help me in this. I have
compiled the latest .99 jack but it does not help at
all even after that.

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone was able to get Ingo\'s V0.7.26-3
realtime kernel to run, especially on an AMD64 machine?
When I boot his kernel I get a problem with the rghb kernel
flag, and when I remove that flag I get another error (see
earlier postings by myself on said topic)
So in the interests of solving my own problem I decided to
see if the problem was in the standard kernel
2.6.10-rc1-mm3.
I can boot 2.6.10-rc1-mmm3, although my mouse doesn\'t work.
(I\'ve posted a bug for this) So, what should I do now?
Thanks for the help!

Hallo,
Dave posting his cool new song (I didn't knew, you were such a good
singer!) reminded me to sometimes put up anouncements of added tracks
on my page here, too. So here's a new one, which is mono, overdriven
so it clips, but I still like it:
http://footils.org/cms/show/28 (ogg, mp3, screenshot)
It's called "Ohh!" and was done to test a new step sequencer I wrote
for Pd yesterday, recorded directly to ogg using the Pd oggwrite
external without any edits.
It's a really silly house track done in about 1.5 hours this morning.
Totally different from Dave's song. You have been warned. ;)
Ciao

I'm trying to get a sequencer like rosegarden working
under knoppix 3.4 (a debian flavor linux live CD
distro). I am unable to get a midiport like
/dev/sequencer to work.
Although knoppix uses OSS by default, with a cheatcode
I am able to boot up using the ALSA driver. But
rosegarden (or playmidi) still complains that
/dev/sequencer doesnt exist.
How can I check if the required ALSA driver/libraries
are present? With my current hardddisk install I can
install missing libraries (unlike the standard
liveCD).
I'd like to get the external mpu401 midiport working,
and also access the onboard FM sounds if possible. I
have ALS100 and ESS1869 ISA soundcards and a yamaha
PCI soundcard.
Here is my system info:
"lsmod" shows uart401, sound, and soundcore
cat /dev/sndstat displays nothing.
/etc/modules.conf doesnt seem to have anything
relevant (grep didnt find midi or sound anywhere)
What is the next step to enable my midiport? I can
promptly post back any requested info. Thanks!

Greetings:
I've placed on-line a song I wrote and recorded with the help of
Ardour, TiMidity, DOSemu & Seq+, a bunch of LADSPA plugins, a guitar, a
harmonica, and my dulcet-toned vocal. It's here if you'd like to check
it out:
http://linux-sound.org/ardour-songs.html
I'll be adding more pieces to the page Real Soon Now, but at least
it's a beginning... :)
Best,

Wow! That's one killer feature!
Anyone knows if that VST plugin would work on Linux?

I've kind of asked this once before but I will ask again anyway.
Has anyone got multiple audio apps to work at the same time with a delta
1010LT? It's a nuisance at times when I need ardour and xmms to coexist.
I've come to the conclusion that I need to use dmix in some way but I
won't lie in saying that I find reading the documentation a chore. I am
merely asking if someone could share the asound.conf if they have
managed to get their card to work in the way I described.
It's a shame to have spent so much money on a card and to have nigly
little things like this start questioning my purchase.
Cheers.
Hi,
I recently installed Gentoo on my box, and I'm really amazed
about the very recent software Gentoo has to offer.
I tried to do some MIDI sequencing on my former Mandrake box,
but I didn't get all things to work.
So, I hoped I could do some sequencing on the Gentoo box.
Unfortunately MusE still freezes as soon as I press the play
button without any error message, so I installed Rosegarden.
I connected my MIDI masterkeybord to my notebook using a
MIDI2USB adapter (UM-1S).
In Rosegarden, I can see the incoming events in the transport
panel resp. the events view on each track.
MIDI through just works fine, I can play my external equipment
connecting both the masterkeyboard and my devices to the
computer.
I then have drawn a one bar segment and placed some drum notes
in it. I can hear my expander playing the base and snare drum
as soon as I paint a note or as soon as I klick on one.
Unfotunately, Rosegarden does not play the events.
As soon as I press the play button, the transport panel
shortly shows that controller data is being sent, but it does
not play my drum events, and the pointer does not cross my
segments from left to the right.
I'm really sure I simply cannot see the wood for the trees, so
any hint would be really great, even if it were a RTFM - as
soon as it includes a link to the correct document ;-) .
But I'm kidding, I read the included manual, the FAQ and asked
Google without finding the needed information.
I wonder because in Rosegarden there are no pointers to be set
on the left and right end of the wished playback area; am I
missing them, or does Rosegarden not need them?
Maybe that's the wee small thing I'm missing?
Any helpful hint could turn me into a glad linux audio user,
so sorry if it is a really silly question ;-) .
My system includes:
* Kernel 2.6.7-gentoo-r6
* ALSA Driver Version 1.0.4
* Rosegarden-4.0.9.8
Many thanks & best regards
