[linux-audio-user] Gramofile

Has anybody got gramofile to work? I've confirmed that there is sound from the gramophone to the computer. And I've chosen linein as the only source. Still gramofile will not record. I can hear the music but not record it in gramofile. I'd really hate to have to use windoze. Please help me. Caisa -- Still confused, but on a higher level. http://www.gender-outlaw.net

[linux-audio-user] Jack 0.95 Mandrake 10.0 Rc1, Kernel 2.6.2, alsa, etc...

Been trying to get a system up with the newest kernel in Mandrake's distro 10.0 rc 1. If anyone is up successfully with this setup can you give a rundown on your system setup? I'm running a Shuttle AK39n Mobo w/ via chipset, Athalon XP 2500, 512RAM. I see Alsa load drivers but have no sound as yet. I run Jackd from Qjackctl...runs first time as user. If I stop it, it wont start again. Should Jack be leaving the temp files in /tmp when it shuts off? I did set up tmpfs on /tmp like on 2.4.whatever it was. When I do run jackd not as root, I fire up Ardour and it cant see jack. Austin, you out there?? Thanks R~

I've created somthing similar in VB for Windows, which is basically a grid of buttons, each one linked to a sound file, configurable by an ini file I keep with the executable. Hello, I see that you are having trouble using the multiface and cardbus in linux, on a 64-bit laptop no less. I am indeed covetious, I too am looking to buy an AMD 64 laptop, but I see only two: the ACI warrior, and the raptor 64; and both seem to me to be not there yet. Perhaps when alienware builds one... As for linux, you are no doubt running the 2.6 kernel? 2.6 is fully capable of running in 64-bit mode (AFAIK) so it would seem folly not to run it, esspecially as it runs faster overall for me, even on my old 32-bit dell i8000. Back to your question: I am also running linux (2.6) and using the hdsp/multiface with no problem. To get it running I : (a) downloaded the newest drivers from alsa-project.org. In linux 2.6, the alsa drivers are built into the kernel, so if you download the newest kernel (Im running 2.6.3), make xconfig, and set up audio, and kernel preempting, and such youll be halfway there. (b) build the alsa utils and tools. In the tools is the hdsploader and hdspmixer. (c) run alsaconf and then edit your modprobe.conf (replacement for modconfig, if I remember correctly). Heres mine: alias eth0 e100 include /etc/modprobe.conf.dist install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || : remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || : alias usb-controller uhci-hcd alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394 # --- BEGIN: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- # --- ALSACONF verion 1.0.3 --- alias snd-card-0 snd-maestro3 alias sound-slot-0 snd-maestro3 alias snd-card-1 snd-hdsp alias sound-slot-1 snd-hdsp # --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. --- I had alsaconf set up the maestro3 and then I edited this file (despite what it said) and added the hdsp Once you build the above, reboot with the new kernel and as all the daemons are loading you should see the kernel print that it found the hammerfall cardbus and is waiting for firmware. When finally logged in, run hdsploader, and then hdspmixer to unmute the card and set levels, then your ready to go! A few notes: I havent been able to get most sound apps tu run in alsa mode, PD I run through jack, and jack I run using alsa, but xmms and gxine for example I run in oss emulation. Could you send me (perhaps off list) any information you have about your laptop, where you got it and about how much it ended up costing? I dont have the money to buy one now (well, not the credit space that is, theres no way I would have $3000 just sitting around), but I figure buy the time i do, Alienware(.com) might have one built. [linux-audio-user] connecting Aureon Space to receiver

Hi, I'm sure, my question may seem stupid, but I'm absolutely newbie with optical in/out. OK. I have Terratec Aureon 7.1 Space and (since today :-) a receiver Yamaha RX-V540. Before experimenting with ALSA configuration, I'd want to be sure which optical input I must to use. The receiver has three optical inputs: "D-TV/CBL", "DVD" and "MD/CD-R". Which of them to use? Or, may be, they are all equivalent? Thanks in advance, Andrew

Hi all! After some tinkering with the drivers, I've done unthinkable :-) -- the cardbus now works flawlessly in Windoze (for Linux read below). What I basically did is investigated the current driver in Windoze for the carbus and it came up as a "generic cardbus interface." I was by now aware that the exact cardbus chipset is/was ENE C1410. So I did some searching on the Google for the driver and came up with HP's driver download page for one of their laptops (mine is eMachines m6807). So, I said what the heck, at this point I just might as well go ahead and try it. So I downloaded the driver (link: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/18388.html) installed it, it went without a hitch and asked me to reboot. Upon rebooting the device manager listed the pcmcia interface as the "ENE C1410 Cardbus Interface." So far, so good! Upon reconnecting the RME HDSP and playing the sound, the sound was absolutely flawless at 3ms latency!!! Yay! Now, I need to do more testing to see exactly what are the real limits of the cardbus, but as of right now, everything seems to be working fine. This laptop is a real gem after all (for $1400 is simply unbeatable, especially considering that the voodoopc sells the exact same chasis with a bit faster processor for $3200!). However, there is one aspect that is yet to be resolved, and that is Linux + cardbus issue. With the hardware concerns now being out of the way (obviously driver upgrade in Windoze has proven that it was software-based), this leads me to believe that the Linux kernel's yenta_socket module that is currently being used for this particular ENE C1410 cardbus is apparently not quite compatible with it. Hence, whoever has any access to the kernel/pcmcia module developers/maintainers, I would greatly appreciate it if you could please forward this info to them, as it may prove to be valuable. Anyhow, I guess this time around the story has a happy ending after all. Many thanks to everyone for your assistance in this matter! At least in Linux it is simply a matter of time until the drivers are properly tweaked (unless ACPI/APIC has also something to do with it).
