rude?? really? why?
after years of having to sift through spam all the time and losing
real mails in the spam folders, i'm paranoid about releasing my real
address onto the web in any form. so far i think i've only received
the brute force type mails to my real address, where they just guess
your address, and, of course, the few that get sent to my disposable
addresses.
20 per day!?? eek! sounds like a huge pain to me.
i've received exactly 10 spams since feb 28th (today is march 29th),
all of which are to disposable addresses (from mailing lists like this
one) and i can delete the address if someone big decides to put one on
their list and send me tons of internet pharmaceutical mailings. i
think it's a nice way to operate.

Yes, that is a trick one can use to compile up vstserver for newer
versions of wine. But it will make vstserver use conflicting versions
of pthread, glibc's and wine's, and can give you (extra)
stability-trouble.

No, don't know. Wine is horrible.
Try dssi-vst instead. It doesn't use pthreads for threading.

Ah, I see you have laid the ground for a light bulb joke here... Let me
try to organize it from your data above:
Q: How many linux audio users does it take to change a light bulb?
A: 10. One to change it, 3 to instruct the person changing it, and
half-a-dozen to wander off into some personal discussion or flame war.
Hmmm, its not there yet, but its a start. I think this can be a good joke
with some work though...

Hi,
I need to archive client data and would very much like
to work directly from the client HD. I've tried USB
and neither version of the protocol is fast enough.
Is firewire 800 fast enough to run a 16 track Ardour
recording session? If yes, then I don't need to move
data from an archive drive to a working drive. That
would be a big bonus.
If anyone could recommend specific controlers that
would be excellent. Someone gave me an older OSCI
firewire controler but I've never been able to get it
working.
I'm thinking about using drive trays that can be
inserted into cases. Some of the cases have multitple
bays where one could be a HD and the other a CD-R or
whatever. I've already got close to a dozen 80gig IDE
drives that belong to clients so the tray and case
seems like a good way to manage my past.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

i was trying to install evolution2 on my CCRMA fedora core 2
installation ... and things didn't go too well, the final touch being a
crapped up pango installation that truly stuffed my machine ... couldn't
even log in. so i though, what the hey ... i'll just install FC3, and
get evolution2 and nice new packages that way.
well everything's gone pretty smoothly, but dssi is proving a tough nut
to crack ...
at first i tried to compile dssi from source, but that wasn't happening ...

then i tried using the CCRMA dssi packages which install fine, but won't
let me compile dssi-vst - apparently i've got the dssi-devel packages
installed, and i've changed the Makefile.in to where it should point,
but this is what i get:

jack_fst still compiles and works fine.
any ideas? (this is with wine 20050111 rpm + devel).
shayne
sorry to cross-post this, but i'm not sure what the culprit is, so hopefully someone here might know (not that i'm using FC2 anymore, but it could be a bug somewhere).

more info:
* jack_fst works fine.
* with a dssi-vst enabled rosegarden, the problem doesn't occur - using
them does not crash rosegarden nor does it log me out.
* it only happens when i exit the plugin by closing the window ... if i
start it from a terminal and then hit "Ctrl+c" to kill the plugin, then
it stops fine, without logging me out.
* it's not easy to get the error messages it prints to the terminal when
closing the plugins window (logs out before i'm able to copy and paste,
and trying to pipe the output to a .txt file only gets the load-up
messages), but here's the paraphrased messages i was able to pen down
(after 3 logouts):
bailing out (...)
write failed on (...) fd:10
remotepluginclient:422 (...) broken pipe
those dots in brackets are where there *might* be more information, but
i can't remember for sure ...

Hello. I found the following open source speech editor.
It requires Snack which is also open source.

Puh Editor, a tool for collaborative annotation of multimodal spoken
language resources developed by the Finnish IT center for science CSC.

Hi, I need a active crossover for a hifi application, and I am
planning on trying BruteFIR. I am downloading Suse 9.2, and then I
will install BruteFIR.
My system is a 2Ghz Athlon XP, 512M DDR, Radeon9600, and a SBLive soundcard.
Is there any advice or problems I will be encountering?
Thanks,
Bryan Jackson
