Yes, in theory, there should be no difference. But try to compile
a shared library that links to libwine and use pthread functions,
without linking with libpthread. This worked with wine 9.12.2003,
but not anylonger. I had to use some crazy hacks on wine to make vstserver
compile for about a year ago or something. And later it got worse
(unable to compile). The way wine/winemaker constantly changes is so
tiresome that I just don't want to touch it anymore. (Perhaps thing have
got better now, though.)

I just know there's some way for me to copy the ch1/ch2 output signals
of my Delta 1010 card to the L/R outputs of my Soundblaster. I know
that this could be done with my ~/.asoundrc file. I've google, read
the docs, lost some hair, lost some sleep, found some more lost hair,
and still can't figure it out. Could some ultrakind person please
give me a hint?
Thanks....

Hallo!
Sorry for just another jack problem - but I have searched the archive,
and it's really strange ...
My problem:
I am able to start jack with qjackctl or jackd.
[1] - see example output of qjackctl
I want to use PD with jack and the strange thing is, that a few months
ago everything worked fine with the same hard- and software.
Then I installed a new version of PD and I couldn't connect to jack from
PD anymore. So I reinstalled the old version, installed new alsa, jack
drivers ... I tried a lot, but I cannot manage it :(
My configuration: RME HDSP Multiface, PD 0.38-4, jackd version 0.99.51,
QJackCtl version 0.2.15a, debian, kernel 2.6.8
First I thought it is a PD problem, but I also couldn't connect with
e.g. jack-rack.
I tried different users, settings, ... nothing helped.
Maybe someone has an idea?
Thanks a lot,
LG
Georg

Subject: [ardour-dev] Eek nice hefty crash action...
Hello all - sorry for cross post - wasn't sure who might have an idea...
see what you think of THIS one. I was working with Ardour beta28, didn't
make any system changes or anything, and I have done this with this version
of Ardour before (yesterday in fact)...
I just exported a region by right clicking and choosing export, and had it
write to 44.1 16 bit format (the session is 48k) and it hung. I had to use
the reset button to reset. So it reset, I logged in, tried the same thing
again. This time Ardour crashed and exited. So I went to start it up again
and it flat wouldn't. It didn't do anything. So I said ok I'll reboot
again. I did that, and instead of booting, I got this (after a small scroll
of stuff I don't recognize):
kernel panic fatal exception in interrupt
And after a try or two rebooting with acpi turned off in the bios and such,
now it stops with this (after similar scroll):
unable to handle kernel paging request
What the $%#? Everything I've googled so far tells me things about RAM and
IRQ and acpi, which gives me a bad feeling that I've got a hardware problem.
What does anyone think?
The system is gento 2.6.6 kernel...uh...I dunno what else...brain fried...

Hi all,
the 3rd International Linux Audio Conference(*) or "LAC2005" for short
is nearing (21-24 April), and if you have not registered for it yet, now
would be a good time to do so. It's free, we are not selling your email
addresses (honestly!), and it gives you a real bonus:
After a short negotiation with ZKM, we agreed that registered participants
have free admission to the ZKM Media Museum and the currently running
exhibition "Making Things Public".
The Media Museum is quite interesting, especially since you can see a real
computer monster in live and stunning action there: Recently, they have
acquired a fully working Zuse Z22 from a local college. This lady is
really worth being seen.
Well, I digress. We hope to see many of you next week at the ZKM in Karlsruhe!

Vstserver does actually works very fine with newer versions of wine, at
least the ones I have tried. But for compiling up vstserver, you
need the 9.12.2003 version. And worse, the 9.12.2003 version doesn't
work with newer versions of Linux, or something like that. (Ie. the
workaround is that you first have to install wine 9.12.2003 to be able to
compile vstserver, then install a newer versions of wine. The plugins will
then use the newest version of wine).
I think there exist a patch or something for the 9.12.2003 version of wine
to make it compile with newer versions of linux (not sure which part).
If anyone has such a patch, it would be nice if someone sent it to me.
I'm still on Redhat 8 myself, so I don't know what the problem is exactly.

I think dssi-vst looks very nice too (although I haven't tried it), and
its very similar to the way vstserver works. It should not be much work to
make vsti, ladspavst and k_vst~ work with dssi-vst instead of vstserver.
But I don't have the time / other more interesting projects.

There are two fundamental different ways to get vst plugins to work in
linux with the help of wine. The fst-way and the vstserver/dssi-vst
way. Both "ways" are needed. One of them is very fast, but hard to set
up (fst). The other one is safer and slower, and a little bit less hard to
set up.
Problem is, that the releases most probably does now depend on a spesific
version of wine, or will depend on a spesific version of wine in the
future. It would be nice if the three projects (or at least fst and
dssi-vst) was coordinated to use only _one_ version of wine, and that
this version of wine is downloaded from one place, for example a
sourceforge project place.
But for this to happen, some person needs to step up, set up a sourceforge
account, do some coding, coordinate the coders, release things, do
some work. It might not seem like Thorben, Paul, Chris or myself is
the right person right now. Perhaps there is some coder with some free
time that wants to do this stuff?

Hello,
I have $(SUBJ) and have following problem. At certain conditions, there
occur clicks in the output of the soundcard. It doesn't matter on what
application I use for playback. The result is same for aplay, xmms. It
seems the number of 'clicks', which disturbes the playback repeats in
certain frequency and probability at which it occur is greater with
rising dynamics of sound source.
For sure i tried to play the same sound source under MS Win and
realized, that there is no such problem.

I know, that this sound card cannot sampling rate 44100Hz but only
48000Hz. This is the reason 'something' (perhaps alsalib) must do
upsample from 44100Hz to 48000Hz. Could be this the cause? How can
I get rid of it?
Thanks a lot for answer

I would like to know if there is any way to be able to seq notes
singing. That is a program that transforms what you are singing in
notes so that they could enter a synt. and well, you could do music
with the speed and ease of thought...
if reatime better.. if "jack enable" bettttter
yes i am a lasy non musician. Yes i love music. And i love livelooping.
