Upfront: Not free help. I don't have time/skill to do what needs
to be done. It's worth money to get it done now.
I'm needing a person to help me configure a couple of systems via
ssh and email/phone. I've looked locally without success. Probably
best to have someone with an interest in linux audio, so I'm looking
here.
Systems:
1. My PlanetCCRMA/RH9 system; going to ??? soon. Probably Planet/FC3.
On this machine I need some scripts, setup/use of audio app's, etc. I've
learned alot about running a linux workstation, but I just don't have the
time right now to a do the work myself.
2. I have a debian server that I'm setting up as a TWiki. The TWiki
is installed and now needs to be configured/customized. Work involves
talking to the techs at the server provider and a University, compleating
the configuration and assisting in the customization.
I'm trying to keep both systems simple. Well away from the bleeding edge.
If you're interested send email to: "Pem"<smoak(a)mis.net>
Ability to handle a remote system via ssh is essential. Experience with
scripting, Jack, ...
I want to get started on this now and complete the work on sys2 this summer.
Helping me with sys1 could be a regular thing for a longer period.
Thanks,
Marv in Lexington, KY

Hi James. Thanks for the reply. According to Richard the deps should all be
handled by the static binary. I've got it making sounds now after a faulty
start (my fault). I'm going to try it out on sarge. Did you have to build a
deb package from the source-code, or will it run off the shell script in the
static binary? Nigel.

greetings!
i'm wondering what you all would recommend as the least resource-consuming
(in terms of cpu/memory usage) method for multitrack recording. i need to
record 18 channels (each to its own file) of 44.1kHz float audio in a live
setting, while simultaneously running some looping and FX, so i'd like to
keep the recording chain as lean as possible.
curiously, my tests have shown significantly lower average system load
using ardour than using ecasound. i was surprised by this, having assumed
that ecasound would be the solution. so now i'm wondering if other options
might be even better than ardour. maybe a recorder built in pd? i do need
metering, preferably with resettable peak indicators.
thanks, in advance, for any advice or suggestions!

I meant to send this to the list. Sometimes I hit reply and it goes
to the list, sometimes both, sometimes the sender...I don't really see
any pattern in it yet.

Oh, I see. I thought he did.
Anyway, I found the problem. I had to upgrade DB. It could be that
gentoo applied some patches to it as well. DB is the one that didn't
have any AMD64 code for fast mutexes. It works now, or at least seems
to so far. The GUI could /definately/ use some work and it would be
nice to be able to send session information as well as download it.
To many things in the way that can cause problems to make a really
good test. My modem may or may not be port -forwarding, the GUI says
'lost connection' whether it finished or blew up. It is confusing us.
But this is a 0.1 release so it isn't expected to be exactly easy to
use or do everything we want. It is a great idea though.

I just tried firing it up with these installed:
python-devel-2.3.4-13.1
python-2.3.4-13.1
python-twisted-1.3.0-1.1.fc3.rf
Everything is working. I didn't catch what version of
twisted you are using but maybe it's that simple.
Taybin occasionally shows up on IRC at server:
freenode.net on channel #ardour. If I see him I'll let
him know you sent him a mail requesting some help.

Here is an oscilloscope DSSI plugin that I've been hacking on the last
few weeks:
http://www.student.nada.kth.se/~d00-llu/music_dssi.php?lang=en
It has two audio input ports and will display the two input signals as
two waves in the display. The trigger level and direction is
controllable, as well as the amplification and offset for each channel
and the time resolution.
Note that this plugin will NOT work with jack-dssi-host from version 0.9
of the DSSI package since that does not support audio input ports. It
will work with jack-dssi-host or Om from current CVS (I haven't tested
it with Rosegarden). Om 0.1.1 and earlier will not work because of an
optimisation that breaks this type of plugins.
The plugin includes a DSSIUIClient class that might be of interest to
plugin UI writers using libsigc++ and Glibmm - it handles all the
required communication with the plugin host and exposes public member
functions and signals for the UI -> host and host -> UI OSC commands
specified in the DSSI RFC. It can also handle the nasty business of
setting up an initial shared memory segment for the plugin and the UI
(the actual implementation of the shared memory handling is in a
separate C file, so it could be useful for people who don't use libsigc
++ and Glibmm or even C++). Source code documentation is here
http://www.student.nada.kth.se/~d00-llu/plugins/ll-scope/dox/html/classDSSI…
and here
http://www.student.nada.kth.se/~d00-llu/plugins/ll-scope/dox/html/dssi__shm…
For more details about the plugin, read the README file in the source
package.
It's all GPL.

I sent this to the author of the program but got nothing back. Maybe
someone here has an idea of what to do to make this thing work.

I don't know what all this lack of fast mutexes is...I have amd64. I
run lots of threaded programs. Anyway, it won't work. Any ideas?
