I'm just wondering if there was ever a work around for
'Demudi-live 1.2.1' that would hang at : 'preparing for live session'
'storing language'. I read an old email, somewhere, that complained of
this bootup problem... or is there gonna be DeMud-livei 1.3?

Please do so. Make the files available from your site or
upload to
ftp://ftp.funet.fi/incoming/audio/
Note: If we end up to conclusion that the samples cannot
be put freely available, then I could make the samples
…
[View More]privately available for the following kind of project.
Research experts should analyse the sounds and come up
with synthesis method which generates as similar sounds
as possible. I'm aware of such research teams and I could
ask them to analyse the samples.
I also have a plenty of research papers on such analysis/synthesis
methods. I could place the papers privately available for anyone
who wish to write the analysis/synthesis software.

Juhana

I've been meaning to replace my dead amp, and was thinking of getting a
Twin Reverb or a Jazz Chorus, but my apartment is just too small.
Does anyone have a smallish amp with a really nice sound, of comparable
quality to the above two, that they would recommend? I don't really
like the way Marshalls sound.

jackstart is a program that makes oss programs talk to jack instead
of oss. It works with most oss programs. When using jackstart, bristol
works very fine with jack.
Hello,
I am thinking of buying the Sound Blaster Live model SB0410, which seems (on
the surface) to be a cheap sound card with SPDIF out and a decent synth.
But first I'd like to know if this would be a right move :)
Namely:
- Is it supported under Linux (hopefully with ALSA) at all?
- Is its synth supported? Does it use SF2?
- Can one somehow record (without *analog* loopback) the output of the synth?
If not - how about recording *with* analog loopback?

Greetings:
Recently I had a 2-day struggle with the flu, so I took advantage of
the down-time and dug into LilyPond 2.6.3 (Demudi 1.3.0rc1). The results
have been placed here:
http://linux-sound.org/dlp-music-lilypond/
I had fun learning the language (again), and I'm pleased with the look
of the output. I'll add more stuff to that site as I spend more time in
the Pond.
Btw, the lack of a GUI was no hindrance. I opened GhostView in 'watch'
mode along with my work file :
…
[View More]gv --watch foo.ly &
I coded in one window, compiled in another, and watched as GV
immediately updated after each compiler run. Not realtime, of course,
but close enough for the kind of work I'm doing.
Kudos to the LilyPond devels for this amazing software !
Best,
dp

With some success using VSTs (non-free so will not be distributed through
Debian and the like but ...), how about ASIO.
Trying to run Tracktion with wine show that asio drivers can be found, in any
event (this program loaded a zillion VSTs but would not play using the DX
sound output through wine, its dialog boxes were not visible but were
"active").
Anyone know of a jackass-io or alsasio-lorraine being played with somewhere
out there?

Obviously, my card cannot. What I had in mind was an analog of virmidi which
viraudio:0, viraudio:1 ... would OR into hw:0. Might be doable with
a .soundrec (I have never used one). …
[View More]My point was that I want to do it all in
alsa, no oss, . Jack of course does all this just fine except for apps with
no jack support.

Hi,
some info for anyone who intends to spend some additional days in
Germany/Baden Württemberg:
* Some days after the LAC the Linuxtag opens (2006-05-03 through
2006-05-06). It's europes largest event about free software (about
15,000 visitors) with a really good programme (usually four slots at a
time). It happens in Wiesbaden this year instead of Karlsruhe, so it's
not "just round the corner" but just 2 hours by train
* There's an interesting project in Halberstadt (east of germany)…
[View More] where
a piece of John Cage gets performed for 639 (sic!) years. On 2006-05-05
the next tone change will happen, meet me there ;-) . If you go to
Halberstadt, visit the Dome and some further churches as well. There
are some other nice towns nearby like Quedlinburg or the Pfalz in
Goslar.
* Karlsruhe isn't an old town, so it cannot offer really old cathedrals
and the like. But the castle and its park are worth a visit for sure.
Try entering the tower of the castle (=entry for the museum)
* Nearby you can visit a very old cathedral in Schwarzach
* There are some old towns nearby worth a visit like Worms, Speyer,
Freiburg and Strasbourg. The last one really is worth a visit, and you
have even been to France/Alsace :)
* There are even locations built by the romans (the river Rhein has been
the border of the »Imperium Romanum« for some time)
* Grab the chance and visit the black forest, if you like even more than
once. There are trains (~1h), or if you like rent a bike and have fun.
There are also lots of hiking trails. If you need assistance, don't
hesitate to drop me a line
* If there are further things of interest in germany you'd like to see
I'm willing to answer any questions
* I recommend a good restaurant which offers a soup with Maultaschen as
starter and a loin of venison with Spätzle, in the optimal case with
plums as main course. It's usually known as »Badischer Rehrücken«. As
dessert try »Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte«, a tart with cherries and cream
Wish to have a pleasant journey :) ,
ce

I have one (fished out of the can) which I use because it does have alsa
support. Under windows, this card can do wave synthesis and I have 8 meg of
samples for it, downloaded from Creative--this is a not awful GS subset.
The card has midi out under alsa so is there a way to configure it to read the
file and play the midi?
