Even though I have done it before, I still have the belief that installing Asterisk locally is overkill for a single person to make calls. I'm not even sure how an Asterisk jack channel would function for RTP input to Asterisk. What would do the signalling?

I'll work on setting up a conference room with a limit of 15 users (that seems high but what the hell) running on SIP and IAX2 channels. Give me a few weeks.

Could you elaborate on this? I have tried to connect soft phones to a jack server and none worked. There appear to be a limited selection of SIP soft phones which are free software and one IAX soft phone that I have used with OSS drivers only. Specific, tested program recommendations would be super cool.
FWIW, I have an Asterisk server running that has /plenty/ of bandwidth to go around for conference rooms.

I have some of these in a data center rack. Generic AMD system.

1U boxes are loud, which might not make a difference for live performance but surely does for recording.

Hello,
I think I've done the things to my /etc/asound.conf to make dmix work ..
and I have two command line scripts to make multiple requests for sound
viz:
aplay /wavi/sounds/file1.wav & aplay /wavi/sounds/file2.wav & etc etc
and:
mplayer -ao alsa:device=dmix /av/afile.avi
I can play many, many sounds at once using the first commands repeated
many times quickly
_or_
I can do the same thing have many instances of mplayer running ok, with
sound, at once.
_but_
I cannnot get the wav files to play if even one instance of mplayer is
running or
vice versa. In other words, the dmix seems, to me, to only allow multiple
instances
of the same application to make sounds simultaneously. In particular I
find that
the Flightgear sim refuses to run if any other app is using sound; I
expected the
dmix to multiplex sound from different apps.
Appreciate any help,thanks,
polly

Jacklaunch startBristol .... is a sure freeze up. Das_watchdog does not even
trap it. Anyone had success with this and what options? Changes to
startBristol script. (I tried placing the jacklaunch for the bristolengine
lines.)

Not yet,
I initially misunderstood Paul by skimming over his e-mail that he wanted to
move the content. Now that I've figured that out, it seems that the only thing
we need to get the site linked is Paul's current URL/IP where he's hosting the
content. Paul?
Also, I am not sure what would be more effective in terms of linking
linuxaudio.org/developer or linuxaudio.org/lad. IMHO both have merit (the
first does not have any redundancy in its name, but the second one is more
accurate in terms of traditional LAD name). Perhaps someone else wants to
chime in with an opinion on this one, or should we simply link both of them
for the time being so that the site becomes available while we discuss the
details? ;-)
