i need to load the firmware onto my digigram VXpocket V2 soundcard.
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Digigram&…
<http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Digigram&…>
./configure
returns "no such file or directory"
make install
says install is an incorrect target
I have loads of packages already installed make, etc
after a massive detour into recompiling kernels etc
& everything else seems to be configured correctly
hopefully all i need to do is load the firmware
though i can find nothing online about why this isn't working for me
what packages do i need to do this, if I don't have them already?
what else do i need to know?
in retrospect I think I've come to linux audio a year or two before it's
ready for me
unless it's just my bad luck for having bought a Quattro then trading it
for a Digigram card
thanks again
for tirelessly answering my trivial questions

Hi,
Got a good deal of work done for my madi vst server with embedded linux.
Tried wine20040505 and ran into some rather nasty errors. Did not spend
a lot of time on this version then.
Next I tried wine20050628 according to Gimpel's tutorial page.
Got that compiled and running for my host.
Then compiled fst-1.6 (and fst-1.7 but have not tried that yet) and
jack-fst-1.2. After altering the Makefiles I got them compiled and
running on the vst server.
Then downloaded the Oberon-8 vsti.
Now I get a wine error of the following sort:
[snip]
vst:/mnt/testsuite/oberon8 # jack_fst Oberon-8
(jack_fst:944): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib

I expect the gdk warning not to be critical...
Have any of you experienced similar problems?
Or might it be better to use a different wine version?
Have not tried fst-1.7 yet because the README says there should be a
executable called jfst or xfst and plugins can be loaded
using ./fst /path/to/plugin.
fst-1.7 builds to a shared library called libfst.exe.so....? Is this
correct? I actually expected that fst-1.7 builds to a current version of
libfst.so... can anyone brief me on what's up here?
Any help would be great!
Cheers,

Does anyone have any hints as to getting Om to install on DeMuDi
unstable? I upgraded to get seq24 and a few other things, but now I
get conflicts and dependancy problems with my rpeo for Om.
I'm working myself up to the possibility of compiling from source, but
I just wondered whether anyone had any advice before I head down that
route.
Cheers!

Hi everyone
*gulp* Here goes...
Finally everyone is happy with this. It's a prog(ish) rock instrumental
called "Laetoli (a fragment of a track)".
Ogg-5 (6.47 MB)
http://www.spitfireq.f2s.com/music/Laetoli_%28a_fragment_of_a_track%29_ogg5…
Ogg-10 (18.6 MB)
http://www.spitfireq.f2s.com/music/Laetoli_%28a_fragment_of_a_track%29.ogg
Flac (35.4 MB)
http://www.spitfireq.f2s.com/music/Laetoli_%28a_fragment_of_a_track%29.flac
Two or three of the wavs were recorded under Windows, shortly before I
discovered DeMuDi. Everything else has been recorded, mixed etc under Linux.
It was, perhaps, not the easiest choice for the first piece to record –
it's been a steep learning curve, not only making the transition from
Windows to Linux but also learning music software and DAW recording from
scratch. It has been fun though and made easier by all the useful
information and help and advice on the lists and elsewhere. It might
have been finished sooner had the guitarist not bought a new axe partway
through and insisted on re-recording a load of parts ;-)
Hope you like it, feedback welcome.
Q
Maybe any newcomer to this world of Linux sofware synths won't think
that there isn't a lot of nice programs available, but instead will
note a big lack of sounds with which to feed those programs.
As an example, only Worra's Place is listed in Linux sampler web site
as a place where to get .gig files. And I definitely think that this
site is, at least, "ugly". Isn't it there any other source of
free/CC/GPL'ed sounds in .gig format?
Also for fluidsynth. It supports soundfonts but, where to get
free top-quality sounds in this format? Yes, there's Hammer Sound, but
there I've never found nothing more, let's say, sophisticated than
good GM programs.
Shouldn't it be the way to go for us to drown into Freesound and
create and share free stuff? What to use meanwhile?
Let's suppose the way to go is to buy commercial sounds. Would you go
for .sf2 or for .gig files? Which one, fluidsynth or linuxsampler do a
better job rendering synth-like sounds?
Cordially, Ismael

Hi,
The NoteEdit team just published the Release Candidate of 2.8.1.
You can download it from
http://prdownload.berlios.de/noteedit/noteedit-2.8.1-rc.tar.gz.
There have been many changes during the beta phase, not only
bugfixes but also several smaller improvements even to the
user interface itself. We plan to publish the release on June 5 so
the translators still have time to adapt their translations.
Among others we added Portugese and Japanese translations.
Also the "highlight" feature preview and print has now been reported
to work on several systems. See the ChangeLog for all changes since
the beta release.
Best,
Reinhard

Hi.
I rewrote the experimental time-stretching software
(but is still experimental now, too :) ) and I put it
here:
http://hypermammut.sourceforge.net/src/paulstretch/
Please listen to audio examples here (with 20x
stretching):
http://hypermammut.sourceforge.net/src/paulstretch/example/
The algorithm is simple and it's described into the
readme.txt from the archive. There is room for
improovements to avoid over-smoothing (I wrote in
readme.txt how I think that is possible to do).
Please tell me your opinion about it.
Paul

Hi,
Is anyone round here making DnB/Jungle? I have an opportunity to promote
this style with a fairly well known DJ/Producer. He is also interested
in finding new acts to release on his label.
If not is anyone here interested in collaborating with me on some new
tunes. I have a few that could be made better with a second or third
influence.
The event is not until August so that gives 3 months to get a few tracks
nailed to the wall.
Cheers.
