Dear all,
this is the second call for papers for the 5th Linux Audio Developers
Conference (LAC2007). This is a reminder since some people might not
have received the last call or might just have forgotten about the
deadlines by now (08 Jan 2007 : Deadline for submission of papers,
worshops, tutorials, demos, hands on demos and music).
The conference is organized by the TU-Berlin in cooperation with people
of the Linux Audio Developers mailing list, the music festival
Inventionen 2007 and the Humboldt University of Berlin.
The LAC2007 is taking place at the TU-Berlin, Germany from the 22nd -
25th of March 2007.
We have introduced some new tracks. Besides the category for papers,
demos and workshops, calls for tutorials and hands on demos have been
added. The tutorials aim is to give new (potential) users an overview of
the possibilities of Linux Audio Software and how to get started.
The LAC2007 provides a computer pool (LA Pool) where developers can give
an introduction to their software and where participants can try out
Linux Audio Software during the conference. This has been combined in
the call hands on demos.
Since the TU-Berlin is installing a new Wave Field Synthesis (WFS)
system the call for music has been extended by a call for compositions
for this system. Music that can be used for radio airplay can be
submitted, and will after acceptance by the Campusradio of the TU
Berlin, be played during the conference.
More detailed Information can be found in the 'Call for Papers' attached
to this email or on the website at:
www.lac.tu-berlin.de
We are looking forward to many interesting submissions for the Linux
Audio Conference 2007 and hope to see you in Berlin in 2007!
Please feel free to forward this email to anybody who is interested.
On behalf of the LAC2007 organisation team,
Marije Baalman and Simon Schampijer

What's with this "tickless" timer option for the HPET? What is its effect on audio/RT performance? Is it worth trying?
Does it do anything on an Ingo-patched RT kernel anyway?

Hi All,
Someone on another list I'm subscribed to has recently posted a message
saying "check out this awesome software I found for Mac OSX" with a link
to Audacity. I'd like to post back giving examples of lots of other great
cross platform FOSS audio apps and say a bit about why FOSS is nice. Is
there a concise list somewhere I can link to? Or do people just want to
tell me their favorite bits of cross platform mainstream friendly audio
software?
Best,
Chris.

Hey all,
Recently there was a lot of rumblings on the news portals about Ubuntu
Studio. It's a project that until recently had been active pretty much as
just an audio-on-ubuntu wiki but the news suggested it was growing into
something quite a bit more.
Deciding to take a look for myself I ended up in the project's IRC channel
and borrowed some of the valuable time of Cory Kontros, the project's
manager, for a quick interview.
Take a look if you like:

Hi,
I'm interested in buying a midi interface for my Dell Precision M50
laptop, running FC5/CCRMA. I wanted to check if anyone running FC5/CCRMA
has had any success with any of the following interfaces and what it
took to set them up (any pointers to set-up instructions would be
appreciated). Hopefully, one of these will work "out of the box". But
some configuration is acceptable, as long as it's understandable and
works in the end.

I have two accounts with the LAU list, this one and a gmail account. The gmail account, being the newer of the two, was going to be regular webmail as yahoo is getting unruly and I prefer the gmail interface.
But lately my posts to this list have been bouncing back with messages about being held because "Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval. The reason it is being held: Message has a suspicious header"?
What does this mean and why is it always so hit and miss? Some days my posts go through unhindered, other days they hang just like this and I couldn't get one to go through even if the fate of the world depended on it.
Who is the list moderator and how nasty a business this must be for them? Obviously quite busy because sometimes days go by without an approval or even a rejection, for that matter.
It's not just this list nor is it just from my gmail account. Perhaps the list structure is showing it's age?
I think this finally pushed me over to the "let's have a forum" school of thought.

For someone wanting to put songs online covered under a CC license is

When I try to drag a bookmark (from the URL bar) to the bookmarks folder
with the mouse, the list of bookmarks does not scroll up as I move the
mouse at the bottom of the list. On the other hand, if I am not
'holding' a URL and position the mouse at the bottom of the bookmarks
list, the list scrolls up properly. So the problem occurs only during
the drag-drop action of a bookmark with the mouse. Is this a bug? I am using
ii iceape-browser 1.0.7-2
on Debian Etch.

I shouldn't have said that. I spoke without knowledge. Sorry.

Hi all!
There was just recently a discussion about pianos, I now bought the "Old
Lady" from pmi (post musical instruments) and I feel it's a nice opportunity
to give a very short review.
Btw. If you like it, until feb. 3rd there's a discount of 50%!
It's a Steinway Model D from 1923 sampled with 10 layers (10layer keyrelease
and pedal-down included). This all seems to work without a problem under
linuxsampler. It's available in gigasampler version 2 and 3. The gs2 loads
without a problem. They said, that the piano is bundled with IRs (Impulse
Responses) of its own body and of the concert hall, where it was supposed to
be. I doubted if I could use those. But wonderful: Even they work. The IRs are
sent as .wav-files. So you can take them and either process them in realtime
through Fons Adriaensen jace or in non-realtime through csound.
I just thought it might be nice to know, for I didn't know that much before
and would have liked to do so. btw. I tried using the piano with both
linuxsampler 0.3.3 and 0.4.0. It was both ok.
Kindest regards HTH.
Julien
