Hello,
I have some videos which need background sounds and something like this.
Also I am working on a game which need sound too...
I was already on <www.archive.org> and was "surfing" the servers
<audio*.archive.org> for free stuff. But unfortunatly found nothing.
My requiremenst are, that the Sounds/Music must be entirely free to
fit the DFSG (Debian Free Software Guidelines).
Can anyone telle me, where I can get such sounds (of any kind).
Q: "Lunar Shuttle Disaster" WHO has written this pieces?
Maybe the name of this guy is "Devaris" or something like this
(can not remember sinde I have had no backup as the Drive crashed)
and there is a realy great sound.
Thanks, Greetings and nice Day

I'm tearing my hair out trying to get muse to listen to my midi
controller. It plays midi alright because when I enter notes in the
piano roll I hear them, but nothing from the keyboard. I'm connecting
my audigy2 port #0 (the one that works with other applications) to
muse's port #0. I've twiddled with everything I can think of.
I'm tearing my hair out because I desperately want to have a sequencer
that actually works; rosegarden crashes every 20 minutes and I haven't
yet been able to get anything working respectably in wine. So any help
would be deeply appreciated!

Hi all,
I would like to know some things that I never understood. And I would like
to know exactly what are they.
In qjackctl Settings, there are these parameters :
* No Memory Lock
* Unlock Memory
* Soft Mode
* Monitor
* H/W Monitor
* H/W Meter
* Timeout
* Start Delay
Is there a very kind person here that could explain me in simple words (I am
french) what are these settings for, and how can I set them in the best way
?
:) :) :)
I think that Memory lock refers to some libraries like GTK+, QT, wine, etc.
But it is too theorical for me.
I Know that Timeout refers to the clilents connexion, but I can't see
exactly what does it meens.
Thank you very much to enlighten me :)
Cheers,
Mysth-R

Hi
I have a technical question that's not directly related to linux, but my
laptop (which is involved) is running debian and for this purpose csound...
I'd like to have an ultra easy setup with my laptop/csound and three usb
keyboards. Normally I drag three hardware keyboards, an external mixer
and my two roland cube amps. The onboard soundcard in the laptop is good
enough to be used in most situations, so I'm thinking: what would
happen, hardware wise, if I split the mini-jack output of my laptop into
two, one going to in-ears monitors, the other going to the PA? I expect
the output level will be lower, but can it damage the laptop headphones
amp, that's driving the mini-jack output?

I got one better. There is a free web app for this type of thing. From the FAQ:
What is Rhyme & Reason?
Rhyme & Reason is a suite of online tools for poets and lyricists. It
includes an editor for writing verse, an integrated dictionary,
rhyming dictionary and thesaurus for finding words, metrical scanning
tools for identifying meter and rhyme scheme, as well as features that
allow you to share your work with others and comment on other writers'
poems or lyrics.

If I use a non-rt 64bit kernel I can start, say, konsole in
1 second, if I boot into a 32bit version of the same distro
on the same hardware starting konsole takes 2-3 seconds, if
I run my self made rt kernel (2.6.23.1-rt1 to 2.6.23.9-rt11)
it takes up to 10 seconds to start konsole. My whole desktop
experience feels sluggish under an rt kernel and Blender
takes about 50% longer to render the same image.
I absolutely need Jack for interconnection but I don't really
need 1ms, or even less than 20ms, latency for heavy duty
multitrack recording and I don't have the hardware to do
so anyway.
My question is; would anyone have any suggestions how to get
the best Jack-savvy audio settings out of recent 2.6.23 to
2.6.24rc kernels without using the rt patchset ?
--markc
This isn't really a linux audio question, but it's related to getting my system going.
My /etc/sudoers has this in it:
%cdrom ALL= NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown
%cdrom ALL= NOPASSWD: /bin/mount
%cdrom ALL= NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/chrt
With this, shutdown and mount will both work without adking me for a password. However, chrt WILL NOT work without a password. It insists. It insists obnoxiously.
What could I possibly be doing wrong here?
chrt is where it says it is supposed to be:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9280 2006-11-15 00:01 /usr/bin/chrt*
And yet I keep getting asked for my password, whereas shutdown and mount work just fine without it.

On Debian Etch, using kernel 2.6.18-5-686, which I presume is a realtime one,
as when I start jack with qjackctl, and with the realtime box checked, jack
doesn't complain.
Looking at messages though, shows lots of xruns, although no music apps are
being used.
I had this problem on Fedora 7. I'd installed the low latency kernel, and
associated packages from planetccrma, and again jacks messages were showing
lots of xruns. There was an updated pam that came with the kernel download,
which left an /etc/security/limits.conf.rpmnew, and Fernando suggested adding
the changes to the existing file, as the default setup for
jack-audio-connection-kit in the limits.conf file set rtprio at 20.
That resolved the problem on Fedora 7. No more messages about xruns.
I tried the same few lines, as below, in the limits.conf file in Etch, but to
no success, and there are no default priorities for jack there anyway.
# limit realtime and memory locking access to users in the group audio
# there is no way to say "allow locking all memory", 4G should be enough
#
#* - rtprio 0
#* - nice 0
#
#@audio - rtprio 99
#@audio - nice -10
#@audio - memlock 4000000
# or (default) allow everyone access
* - rtprio 99
* - nice -10
* - memlock 4000000
I don't have the realtime-lsm package installed on Etch yet, as I wanted to
get opinions from the list first.
Thanks for any help/suggestions.
Nigel.
jackd is version 0.101.1-2 on Etch
qjackctl is version 0.2.21-1
Does anyone know of a good tutorial on how to make use of a synth? I
know how to work it from a user manual perspective, but I have no idea
what to do to get a reasonable sound out of it.
What I really want isn't so much a full blown synth. Take any of the
sequencers which play soundfonts. For any given instrument (piano,
strings, etc), there are many many different versions (e.g. grand piano,
bright piano, electric piano, etc, or even several different sounding
grand pianos for example). What I'm looking for is something which will
allow me to make small alterations to any given instrument. I'm
particularly thinking of strings- take a "string ensemble" soundfont.
Firstly, there must be all sorts of small variations you could do to
make it sound a bit different. Secondly, these are incredibly difficult
to control. Mainly because of the way they will sustain forever- it
would be useful to have more sane handling of the pedal and ADSR (plus a
bit more) manipulation. Any ideas if this is possible?
I noticed the other day that attack and decay time are defined as
standard midi controls. Does anyone know if things like fluidsynth pay
any attention to these?
Thanks
Simon
