Hello,
Does anyone know of a good plugin that will generate subharmonics?
I would like to put a little more low frequency "oomph" into my bass
track. Preferrable LADSPA, but VST would work, too.
Thanks for any help!

I posted a topic about this on the Ubuntu user forums
(http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2354233#post2354233),
but I figured LAU was well-suited for this query as well:
Lately I've been using an external USB synthesizer as my main
soundcard in ubuntu (much better than my onboard) but a lot of apps I
use don't support JACK, which is the only way (and the preferable way)
to get audio output.
The one app that I really wish worked with JACK (out of the box) was
Mplayer. I really want JACK audio output with mplayer, but I don't
want to compile mplayer myself. Does anyone know of a binary .deb of
mplayer that contains support for JACK (ala mplayer -ao jack) ?
I can't find any related topics about this; perhaps it's just me?
I'm running Edgy:
>>$ mplayer -ao help
>>MPlayer 2:0.99+1.0pre8-0ubuntu8 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
>>CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) (Family: 6, Model: 10, Stepping: 0)

At least the 9631 version of the Nvidia video driver did not compile after the
patch was applied and the kernel successfully build and booted. Same would
definitely hold for older Nvidia versions and possibly newer ones as well.
Problem: A bunch of obseleted #define SA_..... entries
in the linux source/include/linux/interrupt.h
They say do not use in newer code but Nvidia does need them.
Solution: Copy these from an older or unpatched version of this file and then
paste into the new one. One need not rebuild the kernel since these are no
longer used there. After do this, Nvidia will build and run fine (so far).
Hi all,
*the 5th International Linux Audio Conference *is *over.* The lac
organization team 2007 had a busy but good time and we hope you enjoyed
your stay in Berlin too. *As always many thanks to all participants,
speakers, artists, partners and helpers! *This great event would not
have been possible without your help. During the conference Martin
Rumori and Frank Barknecht of the Academy of Media Arts offered to host
the LAC2008 in Cologne. So see you all in cologne next year and the best
wishes from Berlin.
We started to put up some pictures from the lac here:
http://www.kgw.tu-berlin.de/~lac2007/picslac/index.html
If you have made some nice pictures they can be added here as well.
Please send them to: lac2007(a)kgw.tu-berlin.de
We have added a page on the LAC wiki where you can post your ideas and
comments regarding the Linux Audio Conference. This could be helpful to
the organizers of the upcoming ones and interesting to the ones who
organized the lac2007.
Best,
Simon
I saw the mosquito device that will annoy younger
people, but not older people:
http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/teenage_control_products.html
Its pretty expensive. How would I begin to create that
from scratch? Can a sound-card generate those frequencies?
I imagine I would need a special speaker.
How about an amp?, does that also need to transmit the
higher freqs.? Is it like going from a bass amp to
a guitar amp? (and I need to keep going?)
Whats good software in linux to generate certain frequencies?
thanks for any ideas,

New releases and updates at <http://www.kokkinizita.net/linuxaudio>
Aliki-0.0.3 Impulse response measurement.
- Many bug fixes, should be a bit more stable now...
- Added flexible export options.
- Manual updated.
Jace-0.0.4 Low-weight convolution engine for JACK and ALSA.
- Now includes configuration and IR files for stereo dipole
processing using the filters designed by E. Choueiri of
Princeton University. These are the best filters available
AFAIK.
AmbDec-0.0.1 1st and 2nd order Ambisonic decoder.

Follie! Follie! Delirio vano è questo !
JackMix, the ultimate mixer app for jack hits another milestone:
"Sliders vs. Knobs"
From the "programming during Linux-Audio-Conference"-depth. comes the
next release of JackMix.
Whats new since 0.2?
Inspired by a lot of talking during LAC I have redone the sliders.
They still look kind of similar to some vu-meters but I think it isn't
that bad anymore.
But there are new knobs in this version too. They did get positive
feedback during the conference. :-)
The knobs from 0.2 didn't seem to scale well. At least not from the
usability point.
The biggest change is that version 0.3 saves the own state to
xml-files which can be read again later. Also adding a filename on the
commandline opens that file on startup. This enables version 0.4 to
have lash-support.
And there is a new interface so backend can interact with the gui in a
better way. The main effect now is that if jackd is not running its
not the jackmix mainwindow that is complaining but the backend popping
up a message.
Visit http://www.arnoldarts.de/drupal/?q=node/568 to find more. See
http://www.arnoldarts.de/drupal/?q=JackMix%3Ascreenshots for
screenshots or just download the package from
http://www.arnoldarts.de/drupal/files/downloads/jackmix/jackmix-0.3.tar.gz
Have a nice weekend,
Arnold

Wenn man mit Raubkopien Bands wie Brosis oder Britney Spears wirklich
verhindern könnte, würde ich mir noch heute einen Stapel Brenner und
einen Sack Rohlinge kaufen.
hello list,
yet another question about sound cards...
i want to buy a card for my new laptop. it doesn't have pcmcia, so i
need a firewire or usb card. i want 8 analog outputs, but i'm not
interested in many inputs, two is just fine. midi i/o would be very
welcome.
i found that the general layout of the m-audio firewire 410 is exactly
what i'm looking for, but i searched a bit and i found out it's not
supported by freebob.
can anyone recommend a card with similar specs to the firewire 410
that's compatible with linux? does anyone know if the 410 might be
supported in the future?
thanks,
lj

OK, this one is confusing:

IANAL, but if I'm reading this license correctly then these IR's are useless for music. It sounds like any data processed using it (i.e. reverb using this hall's IR) then becomes the property of TKK. Gah!
What exactly is "commercial use" of a reverb? I'd have to think that'd mean commercial redistribution of the IR's, including them in commercial products, not using them in a song or production, no?
I mean, that'd be like Alesis or Roland claiming to own the copyright of anything played on or through their DSP gear, wouldn't it?

Any special tricks or tips for making impulse responses?
I see that chuck has a ugen called "impulse" that makes single-sample little impulse glitches. I suppose I'd use that to generate one, then play it through speakers or something. Or, any other tips for preparing a wav file for impulse response, particularly for use with JACE?
Alas, a lot of the good impulse responses I want (i.e. a spring reverb, a forest) are in some proprietary Alesis format, and I can't use them. But it might be fun to wander around making my own, if I can borrow the correct kind of gear for doing that.
