Is it really necessary? Can we say the same thing in a nicer manner?
Maybe a hundred posts one after another: That must suck, et al. I think folks
of our intelligence and talent can do better.
Hey all,
time to sell some goodies to well... pay for some form of treatment
for evil RSI and buy more goodies like a decent mic and soundcard. ;)
Though i'd tell guys here first before ebaying it.
Roland MKS7 analog rackmount synth. Rackmount juno 106.
Ecler HAK320. Damn fine Dj mixer. I don't use it enough to need such a
lovely mixer.
2 SL1200 technics turntables.
2 ortofon elektro stylus/cartrige, almost new.
pickup from melbourne, Australia or sent anywhere.
Make me an offer for any of it.

hi list,
i read some threads in the ardour forum about optimizing the jackd
build, so i would like to find out, if i can build jackd here with more
optimizing ...since i think that more optimizing is better than less
optimizing??
the way i am building jack until now is simply:
./configure --with-default-tmpdir=/dev/shm/
when i run configure like this, i turns:
jack-audio-connection-kit 0.103.0 :
| Build with ALSA support............................... : true
| Build with FreeBob support............................ : false
| Build with OSS support................................ : true
| Build with CoreAudio support.......................... : false
| Build with PortAudio support.......................... : true
| Compiler optimization flags........................... : -DREENTRANT
-O3 -fomit-frame-pointer -ffast-math -funroll-loops -march=i686 -mmmx
-msse -mfpmath=sse
| Compiler full flags................................... :
-I$(top_srcdir)/config -I$(top_srcdir) -I$(top_srcdir) -D_REENTRANT
-D_POSIX_PTHREAD_SEMANTICS -Wall -g -g -O2 -I/usr/include/nptl
| Install dir for libjack + backends.................... :
${exec_prefix}/lib/jack
|
| Default driver backend................................ : "alsa"
| Shared memory interface............................... : "System V"
| Install prefix........................................ : /usr/local
the processor type in the kernel config here is 'Pentium M' but i don't
know if the '-march=i686' could be changed with something like 'pentium M'.
since i am using a self made kernel, only a little help in this issue
would help me a lot.
cheers,

Hi,
I am trying to get some older equipment to work with Linux.
Specifically an ADAT blackface and a RME DIGI 32/8 card. Is this
possible?
My problem is that the red error led on my card does not stop
glowing when I attach the digital out from my ADAT to the digital in
on the soundcard. Drivers appears to be recognised and I can chose
between different input methods in GNOMES mixer applet. I have heard
that I need to send some audio from the computer before the ADAT
sends a valid clock signal, but how can I do that when the card
refuses to work without a valid input signal?
Thanks Johan
Anyone know of any working linux software for speech recognition?
Being able to use shortcuts etc with it would be great. I.e to control
web browsing. I can't seem to find anything except for ancient
references to viavoice. I'm trying to cut down on typing to hopefully
speed my recovery from RSI / overuse injury. If anyone has any hints
for that i'd love to here too!

Basically, for me too... but
what is beauty?
Maybe noise is beauty... I dont know... the sounds of the ocean are like
noice, just like the wind too... I think this is beautiful, but, because I
dont like the car's, bus, planes, trains, etc., sounds, I think there is
almost no beauty into the industrial age sounds (factories, etc.)
So... when I try to make what I call music, I try to put some beauty on it...
maybe a wind sound could be nice for some parts, but I will try to include
melodies because the occidental's traditional concepts are into my life, my
feelings.
it's a long subject...

Hi all,
I have tons of xruns and sound saturation in some specific case.
I use freewheeling + zynaddsubfx. The connexions in qjackctl are specific :
- my external midi keyboard is connected to freewheeling midi in.
- freewheeling midi out connected to zynaddsubfx midi in.
- zynaddsubfx audio out connected to freewheeling audio in
- freewheeling audio out connected to alsa_pcm
The reason for this strange connexion is because I use my midi
keyboard to perform some freewheeling actions, but freewheeling has to
pass the non-relevant midi event it gets to zyn (the notes I play).
It is this kind of loop (freewheeling, to zyn, back to freewheeling)
that cause the xruns !!
I mean that if I connect my midi keyboard directly to zynaddsubfx and
zynaddsubfx audio out to freewheeling audio in, then it is ok !!
But, I really need to control freewheeling too from the midi keyboard.
BTW, the problem does not appear with the first connexions I
described, if instead of playing from the midi-keyboard, I play from
zynaddsubfx integrated visual keyboard.
Anyone experiencing the same problem? Any idea?
Thank you very much !

Here one that works automatically for all multimedia devices:
# find multimedia devices
pcis=$(lspci -v | grep Multimedia | awk '{ print $1; }')
if test -z "$pcis"; then
echo WARNING: no multimedia devices found on pci bus
else
for p in $pcis; do
echo set maximum latency timer for $p
setpci -s $p latency_timer=ff
done

I was born in '75. No one my age in school even knew his name. He
was born in '46, that's not exactly my generation. Whatever
generation he was, I just happen to think he was the most brilliant
musician in the 20th Century. I don't mean the noise or the vulgarity
or the humor, I just think he composed the most beautiful melodies and
harmonies, in between all the attention-getting.

Hi all,
After a while of recovering and figuring out the details on how to do this,
we have now set up a little form online for you to order LAC'07 t-shirts.
The t-shirts will have the same quality as the t-shirts you have seen the
organisers wear, throughout the LAC in Berlin.
This is a one-time offer only, and be sure to put in your orders soon, as the
offer will only stand up until the 16th of April.
We want to have the payment in advance, as we need to pay the cost of
printing, packaging and postage.
Please use the link on: http://www.lac.tu-berlin.de to go to the form, get
more detailed information and order your shirts!
sincerely,
Marije
