I sucessfully compiled and installed ll-plugins (latest svn), slv2, lv2dynparam, elven, and other lv2-like goodies, intending to play with some lv2 synths, particularly azr2.
Everything builds. I'm on jackd 0.103, using alsaseq2jackmidi for bridging over.
Problem is: lv2_jack_host will not show the GUI for the synths. It doesn't report any errors either. Just shows a text dump of the parameters, and starts the synth. I can indeed play azr2 and euohpria, but the sustain is nearly infinite, and the levels are so high that they clip explosively at note-on.
I tried sending CC's, based on reading the .ttl files, but they seemed to have no effect-- not even (especially) controller #7.
elven seems like it might be pretty cool, but it refused to launch, no matter which synth I used (even its example synth), complaining that it couldn't initialisze LASH:
lash_init: LASH_START_SERVER unset, not attempting to start server automatically
[H:M programs/elven/main.cpp:127] Could not initialise LASH!
Could not initialise LASH
Didn't know LASH was an absolute requirement in order for elven to work at all.
But the Leslie and tonewheels on azr2 sound pretty damn good. I recorded a little bit of the drone the not-quite-working-yet lv2_jack_host produced:

If I'm doing something utterly boneheaded here, please let me know. Because I'd really like to have that GUI going so I can start actually playing azr2.

Version 1.0 of Sonic Visualiser, an application for viewing and
analysing the contents of music audio files, is now available.
http://www.sonicvisualiser.org/
Sonic Visualiser contains advanced waveform and spectrogram viewers,
as well as editors for many sorts of audio annotations. Besides
visualisation, it can make and play selections based on the locations
of automatically detected features, seamlessly loop playback of single
or multiple noncontiguous regions, synthesise annotations for playback,
and slow down playback while retaining display synchronisation.
Sonic Visualiser supports the Vamp plugin API for plugins that extract
descriptive or analytical data from audio. Vamp plugins for onset,
pitch and note detection and tempo tracking using the Aubio library
are available, as well as further plugins for tempo tracking,
chromagram analysis, constant-Q spectrogram, spectral centroid, power
curve, key estimation, tonal change detection, harmonic spectrogram,
and a large number of low-level spectral features. There is also a
comprehensive SDK for use by developers of Vamp plugins and hosts.
Sonic Visualiser is Free Software distributed under the GNU General
Public License. The 1.0 release is available now in source code form
or as binaries for Linux, OS/X, and Windows.

Hello
I ended up buying an M-Audio Trigger Finger and it works great with
snd_usb_audio. Does anyone know if there is a tool like "Enigma" for
linux? That's the program for windows/mac that let's you make pad
assignments from your desktop.
Thanks,

Hi!
The aim is to record a vocal + an acoustic guitar in home studio. As for mics themselfs,
a decision is done (it will be russian Oktava MK-219). Now, mic preamp must be selected.
There are two "main streams" - tube preamps (ART TPS II, Nady TMP-2 and such in this
price category). But there are "not-tube" variants also. The thing is, I don't know what
to prefer. Thinking logically, it is worth to avoid any "tube excitations" because
(I suggest) all "tube warmings" or such may be added, if needed, during a mastering.
What can you say?
Andrew
Along with (a currently uninstallable rosegarden), the musix reporistory was
2.61-rt kernels. Are these with the rt patch applied or are they simply with
1000hz timer as some "rt" kernels are?
Anyone used these yet?
Hi all,
I do have kind of a strange situation here: A band is currently recording
their first (and probably last) album at my home studio. In parallel they
started a webpage and since one of their songs doesn't really fit on the cd
(different mood) this song will be published on the internet for free...
That song is finished. At least that is what I think. The one playing the
violin isn't happy with the performance. And knows that he can't do any
better. But for some songs we have a cello and now he wants to have his
violin-parts replaced with cello playing the same.
The problem:
1. Our (especially my) time is limited and that is only the internet-teaser.
If we do one or two rerecordings for each song after I mastered them the
first time, the cd is going to be published summer 2008 or even 2009.
2. That song should have been on the net a month or more ago...
3. As the one playing the cello is doing that for business it will definitely
sound better and cleaner. But he isn't part of the regular band. So you will
hear something on the net which isn't the band.
4. Everyone (except the violinist) who listened to the song in one of the
(pre-)mastered versions didn't think of the violin-tracks as bad and in need
of rerecording.
The solution:
I ask you (yes, you) for your comments:
http://www.bloomingdesert.de/files/files/there_is_not_much-delta-2007-05-07…
Should I go through the trouble of mixing and mastering again just to replace
the violin?
Other comments are welcome too... ;-)
Thanks in advance,
Arnold
PS: The band doesn't know that I am prereleasing the song to you... I just
don't know whom else to ask about the song, my wife, brother and even
everyone else in the band thinks of the song as finished.

Recently (r45) I made SWIG required only when building svn version. So
next 4-pre or 4 will not require SWIG when building from tarball.

Thank you! I fixed this in r64.
