[LAU] Anyone know how to build ZynAddSubFx from the sourceforge tarball?

I've problems with ZynAddSubFx on Fedora 7. It's hitting 100% CPU when I start it. I DL'd the tarball for it from Sourceforge, but there are no install instructions. There's some stuff in the README for windoze, but nothing for us Linux users. I've other Fedora. and Debian installs where ZynAddSubFx works with no problems, so it's not that I don't have access to it, but would like some info as to how to build it from the tarball, and get it working on Fedora 7. Any help appreciated. Nigel.

[LAU] Loosing stuff is not always a bad thing

Recently I posted my tune 'Antartica' on KVR (not mentioned here because it had no connection at all with Linux) and when someone commented that one instrument was too loud, I thought he was right so decided to do a remix. To my horror I could find no trace of the build files, not even searching back more than two years of backup CDs, after the usual tantrums, swearing and pulling the house apart (no chair throwing though). I had the bright idea of firing up my ancient Acorn machine, which to my surprise and delight came up without problems. There was my original MIDI file from 1993. This was of course quite a lot different from later versions, but was complete enough for me to recreate the track. However, I felt free to be more adventurous both with the tune itself, and the instruments. It is now about 70% ZynAddSubFX, 20% SY35 & 10% Sound Canvas and all the editing was done in Rosegarden so is proudly 'music made with linux' :) I would greatly appreciate some feedback, even if it's just to say I wasted my time and should have left the old machine in peace. http://www.musically.me.uk/music/Antartica.ogg http://www.musically.me.uk/music/Antartica.mp3 Hey, I think I've finally got the hang of these URLs :) -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk

Hello everybody, Finally, after what does seem like ages (mainly because there literally has been ages) since the last release, here is finally what we have decided to call MusE 0.9! MusE is a multitrack midi/audio sequencer with support for internal and external softsynths, in the same vein as popular commercial music applications like Cubase, Logic, etc. MusE has been in transition towards a redesign dubbed MusE 1.0 and there wasn't supposed to be any more development in the old (0.7,0.8, now 0.9) branch. [LAU] Music: Woxitron WIP

Hi! It all started with a single custom drumloop run through dozens of plugins, cut into pieces and rearranged to retrieve several versions that can be layered. That was years ago, using Cubase. Now I feel slightly awkward about that, but this material is way to good to leave it :) I took those few short loops and a bunch of other old samples to build a track in Ardour. Said samples include me screaming into the mic, a car and a lorry passing by on a wet street and a soda stream. http://images.ciao.com/ide/images/products/normal/555/Soda_Stream_Maxi__172… So far its almost all percussion. I intend to add melodic parts. Usually I build a "core" of a piece, consisting of 4 to 16 bars with complete instrumentation, but here I have a skeleton now, like was the case with "FM Casserole" and the collaborations with Folderol. Hi all, From the "doing-my-exams-I-need-a-break"- and the "long-long-time-ago"-depth. comes the next release of JackMix. Whats new since 0.3? Since 0.3 can save its own state (and load it again) it was only a small step to include lash-support. Well, it took some time after the last release but thats because I had to be real busy for work and university. And it seemed to be a bug somewhere in the new lash-part but currently I can't reproduce it, so I think I just release this version before it gets really old... [LAU] An atrocity committed with PD

Not only is it a sonic atrocity, but it's also a legal atrocity: there's no way I'd ever be able to clear the rights to this from Cartoon Network, so I'll take this down after a few days. Serious question: what do y'all do about the 1980's-era idiocy of MIDI, in that it only has 127 steps in its CC's (sheesh, not even a lousy byte!). Do you burn two controllers with fine/coarse adjustments?
