Snd has an interface for this, located in either gtk-effects.scm (gtk) or
new-effects.scm (motif). You'll find it under
Effects->"frequency effects"->"Src timevar".
The simplest thing might be to install snd-ls:

Snd does this a way which sounds very good, using sinc resampling.

Always record in 24 bits when possible. You will want the lowest possible
noise floor when mixing together multiple signals. Noise can build up easily.
The bit depth of the destination format has little to do with what
resolution you should use for the source.

Hi guys,
Hope you'al can help me out here?
I am working on a project that will use an external USB sound card under
Linux. After much effort, I have gotten the device to work completely under
Ubuntu. Which is where I really need it to work. Unfortunately, my
development system is running FC6 and during all my testing I have
mis configured my ALSA to the point that I can no longer record from the USB
input. Playback works fine on both.
This is how I am testing the device:
arecord - -D plughw:1,0 | aplay - -D plughw:1
which works on a standard Ubuntu installed system on the same hardware.
On the FC6 system all I get is 'dead air'.
/* ---------------------------------------------------- */
My output from the FC6 system is:
This from dmesg:
ohci_hcd 0000:00:13.1: auto-wakeup
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 3

I am certain that it is something I have done but unaware of what it is?
I am at a loss. Is there a way to return to the default sound setup?
Any ideas suggestions?
Thanks for your time.

I require excellent voice input through my microphone and have the
chance to get a new laptop with anything I want on it.
What hardware should I get?
Are there software choices?
It has to be a laptop-compatible sound card.
The input must be through ALSA.
I use a Stenomask microphone.
Thanks.

Hi, list!
I am looking for some audio editing app (or maybe some plugin effect)
that would do the same as SoundForge's Pitch Bend.
What this effect does is that it presents you with a X-Y graph
representing the time (X) and the pitch (Y). This way, you can draw a
line that represents the bending of the pitch, time-wise.
I used to use Pitch Bend to create psy-trance kick drums by running a
sine-wave through this effect, having a very high pitched start and that
would quickly drop and then stabilize, giving me a nice sounding, clean
and fat on the lows sound.
There is something similar in ReZound, but it does not sound very nice.
I think that it doesn't resample the audio, only shrinks/stretches the
samples it already has, thus outputting a very grainy and not-fat-at-all
low end.
Cheers,

Get the following error:
scons: Reading SConscript files ...
Checking for pkg-config (at least version 0.0.0)... ok
Checking for QtCore... ok
AttributeError: SConsEnvironment instance has no attribute 'MergeFlags':
File "SConstruct", line 33:
env.MergeFlags( needed )
The "needed" is the path the the QtCore library, I suppose, from the
SConstruct script. I suppose I need to have some python module installed.
Which one?
I also cannot compile the ofqf-0.1.1 with too many errors to find the culprit.
What are its dependencies (lib???-dev stuff to install) ?
I'm doing some solo gigs (midi backgrounds and me on sax). Up to now,
I've used a Casio keyboard with a memory card to play custom midi's.
Works fine, but I'm getting tired of carrying around the keyboard that
doesn't get played.
So, I thought I'd put the tracks on a mp3 player and plug that into my
PA. Only problem is that I can't seem to figure out (find?) one that
lets me select a track, hit <play> and, when the track is done, STOP.
I've tried a couple of portable CD players (one with MP3, the other
without), and my rockbox-enabled Iriver H120 player. They all want to be
music players and continue on into the night :)
I don't want to spend a fortune on this! Anyone know of a relatively
cheap player which will do one-at-a-time?

Folks,
I had a house fire a few years ago in which i lost my beloved audio equipment.
Since then i have been building an audio system as money allows. I now have
a pair of Anthony Gallo Acoustics 3.1 reference. They are *very* transparent
and tell me a lot about what is happening up-stream. I also picked up a
Carver TFM-15CB. My aim is a pair of Bel Canto Ref 1000 amps but this will do
for now. I run my audio from computer to Carver with no out-board preamp in
between.
My computer, which was also through the fire, has been having motherboard
problems lately (what a surprise!). Since i was replacing the sound card
anyway (on board nvidia chipset via an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe), i got a Sound
Blaster Extigy on ebay. I knew it was cheep but it's what i can afford now.
I'm confused by what i'm hearing. It's very nice not to hear the whir of my
fans (especially the damned chipset fan) through my speakers, but things
sound shallow in comparison to running my audio straight from the
motherboard. I get a little more detail and it's a lot quieter, but the
weight of things are gone.
Some things sound alright, but when i listen to a track of 4 cellos playing,
the feeling of the layered harmonics is gone. Things sound flat. Not flat in
a sound-stage sense, but pianos while having the depth don't have the body.
They sound like toys or as if i'm playing an MP3. There is a fatiguing bite
to things as well.
I tested the frequency response with some warble tones and i can hear much
deeper bass tones then i could with the motherboard. I presume that is an
effect of not having the fan noise smear things.
It's just not emotionally engaging and i don't know where to go from here.
Would a SB Audity 2 NX help or would it just be more of the same for more
money? I don't want to spend a lot as this is just a stop-gap till i can
afford something better, but can someone tell me if this is the extigy in
particular, all SBs sound like this or is this the nature of all cards at
this level?
Thank you,
Bearcat M. Sandor
