JACK Rack provides a usage example, of course.
You using C(++)? Any reason you're not giving a dynamic language
(Common Lisp comes to mind) a shot?

Hi,
Is it possible to have a file browser in Qtractor like you have in
energyxt or lmms?
In qtractor I only see the files which I have added as track or midi.
Wouldn't it be useful if I have a browser so I can easily pick out some
samples from my 'samples' directory, some midi files from my 'midi'
directory, saved project files etc. ?
Regards,
I tried following the instructions at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=455902 for setting up the
Oxygen8 keyboard on Ubuntu Studio 8.04, but it's not showing up in
lsusb. I only see my USB mouse. Any ideas on what could be going wrong?
Thanks.

It has been over 7 years since I last messed around with writing Pthreads applications.
I recall it as a painful, ugly, brain-numbing task. I located an exercise I did back then to address the consumer/producer problem in Pthreads, and just the sight of it is giving me a headache.
I also vaguely recall that some GUI-related libraries like Glib and QT offered built-in abstractions to make multithreaded apps and common constructions like circular buffers much easier.
I'm being lazy, so instead of researching everything that's out there, I'll ask here: can anyone recommend a relatively simple and painless abstraction library (GPL or LGPL of course) that will give me functions to create a thread in which I can stuff things into a ring buffer, and another thread in which I can pull stuff out of it?
By the way, I know that JACK has a very nice event buffer which is insanely easy to use (and I have), and makes multithreading almost transparent, but this isn't a JACK app.

Thanks for the information.
Now I'm looking for an hip hop artist who uses Linux for her/ his music.
Re: [LAU] hip hop / making beats - that reminds me doe any remember
that snazzy little drum machineapp that came out back in May or June?
I know this is vague but it was called maybe xr-7 or something? had 16
pads looked like a 707 meets 303 or groove box?
any help would be great!
thank you

Does anyone have a pointer for midi file players with a GUI that can
change the tempo while playing?
This is just for playing MIDIs from a computer to an external synth. I
don't need any of the soft synth stuff.
The only player I use with regularity is aplaymidi, but it's a command
line program.
I've tried kmid which would be fine but the output it generates is
"weird". I'm not sure what it is doing, but the sound is distorted. I've
tried to contact the author, but no success.
Also, there is the old playmidi, but I can't get it to output to the
alsa midi stuff. It appears to work, but no output.
That leaves me with stuff like rosegarden ... overkill to just play a
midi file.
I'd hate to start to write my own, just to find a decent one which works.

Hi,
this is probably a stupid question, but please, have some tolerance for
an overloaded brain. :-)
I'm sitting with qjackctl in the front of me and wonder after hitting
its "Connect" button: Why both Jack MIDI and Alsa MIDI? As far as I can
see, all my MIDI equipment are connected to ALSA MIDI and I do only
recall that I've seen one or two apps using Jack Midi. And if more apps
are using Jack MIDI, can it communicate with the ALSA MIDI connections?
Thanks,
Jostein
Hi,
I just want to explore the vst possibilities on Linux. Which apps are
good 'hosts'?
ardour (not realy i think)
LMMS ?
Qtractor?
I'm especially interesting in the possibilities of Qtractor in this
area. How should i compile qtractor to enable vst? How good is the
support? Where can I find more information about it?
Regards

That looks great, although I didn't really understand what for the app
was exactly till I saw this video
http://www.propellerheads.se/products/recycle/index.cfm?fuseaction=get_arti…
;)
Is there a difference when you change tempo in ardour/rosegarden etc or
freecycle? they say freecycle keeps the groove, but isn't that also the
case for the other apps?
