Greetings,
For no reason beyond boredom I decided to pester this list with an OT
topic or two. So, without further delay:
What was your first computer ?
And for extra points:
What was the first music/sound software you used that really hooked you
into this making-music-with-computers fad ?
You may fire when ready.
Best,
dp
Has anyone managed (or knows if it's possible) to use my MIDI output on
a Audiophile 24/96 card under Windows XP in a virtualbox host? I'd like
to run one program from time to time (a casio utility to set up my
keyboard).
BTW, I tried this earlier with a usb->midi cable as well without success.

Hello,
I'm familiarizing myself with music tools shipping with Ubuntu Studio
8.10 and I encoutered an interesting bug in MusE - it refused to open
midi files created on Yamaha PSR 740 portable keyboard using its
accompaniment unit. Has anyone else such experience? I won't subscribe
to MusE mailing list yet, but this sequencer looks promissing to me.
Best Regards.

guitarix is a simple Linux amplifier for jack(Jack Audio Connektion Kit)
with one input and two outputs. Designed to get nice thrash/metal/rock
guitar sounds. . . . .
This update is to get more possible settings for Fons Adriaensen jconv.
http://www.kokkinizita.net/linuxaudio/index.html
Now you can choose from the guitarix-jconv settings widget:
select a ir*wav file, set the gain, choose the partion size,
choose mem max size(1000 - 200000), choose mode between /impuls/copy
or /impulse/read.
get it here:

I was delighted when mightyseek.com, the author of PodPress, added a Java OGG player to his app, so that my music files could stream and play in-browser (no OGG-capable player required) from my WordPress blog.
But, some 3-4 months ago, I upgraded to the latest PodPress and my OGG files have stopped playing on my site.
And, the support forums for PodPress are now 404. And the author writes in his blog that he's "been very very busy" and the forums were taken offline due to spammer and he hasn't had time to work on PodPress.
Great. I'm stuck with a complex orphaned program upon which my whole music blog depends.
Anyway, has anyone run into this problem, solved it, or know of alternatives I might use for playing OGG's in-browser?
Thanks.

Hello,
in our Linux Audio Proof Of Concept project we try to find out, what can
really be achieved with free software only in the field of music making.
We use only some must-haves of affordable hardware (mixers, mics) to
have a situation similar to the typical Mac/Win home recorder, that
emulates outboard-equipment with VST etc.
Our Computers run 64Studio, JAD1.0 (without wineasio) and UbuntuStudio.
The main tool is Ardour2 whithout VST. All apps are GNU, all samples are
recorded by us and we had only one session with a Line6 pod in witch we
recorded about 20 seconds of the material we present hereby:

Both are in a demo-status, the first (ashita) needs a final mix and
mastering, the second will get a bass line and some more extras also and
will be re-recorded in a open demo-session with a band at the
Brandenburger Linux Infotage in Potsdam/Germ on November the first this
year.
We also released some raw samples of drumkits and guitars:

please consult the README for a description and for detailed
licensing-infos.
Any comments, hints and derivatives are highly welcome!
best regards

Hi,
A few months ago there was a discussion on this list about the
management of jack connections in Audacity. It makes and close jack
connections on play/stop, that should be on application startup and
shutdown.
Here you can vote for this jack improvement in Audacity:

thanks,
Hi LAU!
I'm new to the group, heard about it from some random forums.
I'm looking into getting pretty much a "starter kit" for recording.
I'm considering getting:
2 AT2020 mics
2 XLR cables
2 generic mic boom stands
M-Audio Delta 1010LT (PCI sound card)
I'm temporarily holding off on studio monitors and using some Sennheiser
headphones for the time being.
I was considering the Yamaha MG166CX mixer, though changed that to just
the Yamaha MG166C (I don't think I need the fx). Though, I don't know if
I even need a mixer at all. It seems like people are just using the ones
in the programs (like in Ardour).
I have gobs of questions to boot... :)
Would benefits would there be in using an actual analog mixer with a
DAW?
I'll be using apps like Ardour, do I need a mixer?
Should I get an A/D D/A converter (like the Behringer ADA8000)?
If I get a mixer with the "Delta 1010LT", will I need the ADA8000?
Does the 1010LT already serve as an A/D D/A converter?
What would anybody recommend?
I have immediate access to 2 electric guitars, 1 electric bass, 2
acoustic guitars, 1 electronic drumset, and 1 (old) MIDI keyboard.
I'm also looking for a MIDI keyboard, perhaps 88-keys but condensed such
that I can put it on the desk near the computer keyboard and LCD monitor
- intention on the MIDI keyboard is for composing and recording.
Thanks!
Sean
