Hi,
I've a dvd here with someone who is giving a presentation. But the sound
and video are not well synchronized (e.g. the mouth moves, the sounds
comes behind).
How can I fix this? With which apps?
Thanks in advance,

PianoBooster version 0.5.0 has just been released, this is the first
ever release of PianoBooster.
If you dabble in music and have a Midi Piano keyboard lying around
then give PianoBooster a go as it actually makes sight reading music
fun!!!!!
To see what it is all about take a look at the screen shot:
http://pianobooster.sourceforge.net/images/LinuxScreenShot.png
First choose a MIDI file (the Easy Play Beethoven is a good one -- see
the download page for where this can be found) then select which part
that you want to play along with (e.g. the piano part or the strings
part etc). Then select the "left" hand or the "right" hand or if you
are feeling really brave choose "both hands" and try to play along.
The "Follow You" mode make it really easy to sight read the scrolling
notes as the whole accompaniment will stop and wait for you to find
and play the right notes.
The accuracy bar monitors how well you are playing. If you are skilled
enough the accuracy bar will go right to the end and then turn blue.
But every time you are too slow or playing out of time, then the
accuracy bar slips back a bit.
You can watch a video of it in action on YouTube:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7YaDllVreuM
Piano Booster 0.5.0 is released under the GPL and is available at

Hi all,
I have the latest rosegarden (RG) connected to my korg oasys via a
midisport 2x2 just fine. However, RG doesn't have a piano roll UI like
timidity does - which I use to learn complex piano pieces that don't
have sheet music, My goal: route the midi out of RG to both my korg
and timidity simultaneously. Is that possible?
I'm a jack newbie, but via QJackCtl I was able to take this screenshot
showing my alsa connections:
http://braziloutsource.com/random/jack_alsa.pnghttp://braziloutsource.com/random/jack_audio.png
The "midi" pane in the connections window is blank. I started timidity
with "-Oj" , but don't hava timidity in the alsa pane. Here's a
scrrenshot of my options to add an output socket:

Any ideas?
Robert
In this release:
* zynjacku codebase updated to the latest state of LV2 art. Especially,
event MIDI port synths are now supported.
* The tarball now contains lv2rack - a host for LV2 effect plugins.
* Saving/restoring of presets. Does not work for dynparam plugins yet.
* LASH support (autodetected at runtime).
* Lot of general fixes that should make zynjacku more usable.
I would like to thank Krzysztof Foltman for adding support for
some LV2 extensions and Martin Raspaud for helping with slv2
compatibility during my LADI quest.
zynjacku is JACK based, GTK (2.x) host for LV2 synths. It has one JACK
MIDI input port (routed to all hosted synths) and one (two for stereo
synths) JACK audio output port per plugin. Such design provides
multi-timbral sound by running several synth plugins.
zynjacku is a nunchaku weapon for JACK audio synthesis. You have solid
parts for synthesis itself and you have flexible part that allows
synthesis to suit your needs.
lv2rack is a host for LV2 effect plugins.
You need slv2 library, Pyhton bindings for PATH and lv2dynparam host
library to compile zynjacku tarball.

Hi,
For a while I've been wondering just how many people
are using Linux for music performance, and what kind
of music. This led me to the idea of doing a survey on
this list to see what we come up with. The results
will be published on Mstation.org
Please email your replies to me. Here we go ...
artist name:
website:
Linux distro and addons:
gear setup:
music genre (roughly):
types of venue played:
link to an example track:
comments on your setup (how happy you are with it;
improvements you're thinking of etc.):
anything you think is important that hasn't been
asked:
Thanks very much. Replies could provide people with
a clear pathway as to how they could proceed.
cheers
John

Hi all,
Here is a second draft which include BLUES-patterns.
http://philippe.hezaine.free.fr/spip.php?article36
It's almost like the old Drummer's Free Art except for some update.
Be aware there are not velocities in the file yet.
This draft is for those amongst yours who can't wait (as for me
sometimes). So you can choose and copy and paste from the file to the
template and try new patterns.
You have to install Lilypond.
If you want the velocities read the advices from Dominic Sacré in the
thread: "transform midi Control Change 7 into velocity events?" on this
list.
You have to install mididings.
Have fun.

Preston,
I have to admit I am having some trouble here myself which I could not yet
solve reliably, that is why I respond so late...
It might have to do with the sound device that is selected in kmix (I wrote
about that issue some other day a while ago).
There are several variables/applications involved that want examination so I
guess it will take me some time until I can give further details on that.
The problem that I have is that like You I cannot receive MIDI data from an
external USB device, but in this case kmon showed me that sometimes there is
a short number of MIDI messages I get and then it all stops and I do not see
any more messages, and sometimes I get no MIDI messages at all.
As I said a while ago I wrote about this problem and noticed that it could
have to do with the sound device to which kmix is set to. When You run kmix
(open it from the task bar) and You have several sound devices for sound
output then kmix offers a popup menu from which to choose which one You want
to adjust. I have noticed that I get these hangups when the internal onboard
sound of my notebook is selected here, and it is all just fine when the USB
sound device is selected, but now I am not so sure here anymore.
I also had some problems to get qjackctl running properly when there are
several sound devices available. It seemed the problem could be fixed when
setting qjackctl to output do "default" device and input from "default"
device and apart from that set the sound device with the single menu at the
top menu called "interface". But still I have problems with that and get no
MIDI data, so I have to have a closer look at what is happening here.
BTW, do You have no MIDI data even when not running a RT kernel? It could also
be a kernel related problem, as I had no problems with an older RT kernel.
Possible solutions for me:
Run jackd via command line (only), so I can see exactly what jackd gets when
run.
Regards,
Crypto.
