Hi Folks...
It's about time for me to get a few more CD-R/RW drives for a Slackware 11
box...
Only CD read and write are required, speed isn't an issue either... Price is
but these things seems to be low enough in price these days so even that
doesn't seem to be an issue...
Writing is the important part... I don't rip CD's anyway...
So... what new units do you all recommend these days???
Thanks in advanced

Hi,
Still exploring the Eee possibilities, is there a simple mp3 mixing
program out there ? No even doing real time stretching but lightweight
with two playlist and an assignable USB crossfader would be nice.
Is there such a thing ?
Thanks
Marc
Thank you all once again for your help.
I've just received a mail from the producer. They asked me to fax them a
letter granting them non-exclusive SYNC, MASTER USE, PERFORMANCE and
VIDEOGRAM licenses for three tracks (they added another one: "Hope").
I can't afford a lawyer (and I don't think it would be worth anyway). So
I'm doing everything myself (writing the letter etc.)
If you're curious here's some info about the movie at imdb:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130968/
They offered …
[View More]me a donation (don't know the amount, and no royalties),
plus possibly a second donation based on the success and the
distribution of the film.
This is the first movie for both the producer and the director. They
seem nice, and so I accepted.
Cheers,
-c.

Hi list,
I was wondering if any of you know about a good SndObj Sound Object
Library Page tutorial for dummy like me.
The only documentation i can find on the home page
(http://sndobj.sourceforge.net/) is the complete reference manual and
some uncommented source code of simple applications. But since i'm
just starting to code on c++, i'll need something more "step by step"
or "dumb proof"... Any tips?
Thanks,
-Fran
I've been tinkering recently with my Eee running Xubuntu and a newly
acquired M-Audio Axiom 49 USB Midi Keyboard; I think it'd be just about as
great as it could get if I could use the Eee as a synth engine via
XynAddSubFX or similar - Unfortunately, I've been unable to tweak my JACK
settings to the point that all stutters and chops have been eliminated. I
understand that the Eee specs are quite low (900mhz proc, 512MB RAM), but
watching my resource usage while I'm playing shows the processor …
[View More]at less
than 50% and RAM holding steady at 60% or so - This would lead me to believe
that my problem is configuration related.
Any other Eee users out there had any luck getting JACK fine tuned to the
Eee? Since we're all working on nearly identical hardware, perhaps we could
swap configs?
Thanks!

THANK YOU!!! It works!
I feel stupid - really the only reason I wasn't getting sound was I had
the wrong input selected on my Firewire Solo box.. I was sure FreeBob
wasn't working, because aplay -l didn't work, and it hadn't occurred to
me to try starting Ardour, but as soon as I did I saw that it was
showing the inputs and outputs from my Firewire Solo.
I can't tell you how great it feels to get audio, after a week of
struggling with this!!
Cheers,
Katie

Hi, I apologize for cross-posting, as I've already sent this to the Ubuntu
Studio list, but I don't think the problem is specific to Ubuntu...
I need some help getting Freebob to work with my new M-Audio Firewire Solo
device instead of a soundcard.
When I run gscanbus, the Firewire Solo is recognised, but when I do
$ aplay -l
I get the message:
aplay: device_list:204: no soundcards found...
However I know that the Jack server can 'see' the Firewire Solo in some
way because if I do
$ …
[View More]jackd -d freebob
without the Solo plugged in, Jack won't start. But if the Solo is
plugged in Jack will start, and I get the messages:
JACK compiled with System V SHM support.
loading driver ..
SSE2 detected
Freebob using Firewire port 0, node -1
libiec61883 warning: Established connection on channel 0.
You may need to manually set the channel on the receiving node.
libiec61883 warning: Established connection on channel 1.
You may need to manually set the channel on the receiving node.
But still I don't get any sound. I have no idea what 'manually set the
channel on the receiving node' means.
Also, I don't know if this is meaningful in any way, but when I open
qjackctl and go to setup, the 'input device', 'output device', 'input
channels', and 'output channels' drop-down boxes are greyed out.
I've read all the info I could find on this from Google searches (though
a lot of it is way over my head) and I'm running out of things to try to
make this work, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
-Katie.

Hi everyone!
I narrowed my recent problem down to not being LinuxSampler, but either jack
or its interaction with the kernel.
So: Does any of you use 2.6.23.1-rt11 or 2.6.24-rt1 in conjunction with
jack?
How well does it work? Is it easy to make connections when the system is
working nicely (with a good deal of memory in use)?
I still have trouble connecting my linuxsampler when I've loaded my 1.3gig
sample (32768 samples in RAM) or when I use fluidsynth with a very big
soundfont (…
[View More]200M). It's all much too instable?
Suggestions anyone? What to test? Where to start?
Kindest regards
Julien

Dr. Gareth Loy, Musimathics 1 and 2
Has anybody read these books? I did a quick search of my archive of
the list and it doesn't look like they've been discussed here. Vol I
is "musical elements," Vol II is "musical signals." Judging by the
table of contents they appear to be comprehensive.
