hi crew...
i have just been looking at the benchmarking stats for reiser4 and it looks
pretty cool. i was wondering if there is there is any reason to implement
this kind of file system in multimedia environments. i current have my
root/system partition as reiserFS and my home partition as ext3. i find this
to be quite efficient but perhaps if there would be an improvement to
recording stability and speed, then perhaps it could work well with apps
like ardour. although, reiser seems to be happiest with small files, reiser4
claims to be more efficient than ext3.... or that could be just spin.
is this totally silly.... perhaps there are some people with more linux
knowledge than me to comment.
cheers.

Hi,
I give up: Since I've become a father I've hardly ever found the time
to abuse 1 input channel, let alone the 26 of my hdsp 9652. So I've
decided to sell it, preferrably to a lau person.
Package is complete, nothing bad ever happened to the card, it works
like a charm, served us good when we were still a band.
Price: On ebay they tend to go for 250 to 300 Euros, depending on the
weather. So I figure 275 Euros should be a good deal. Fixed offer.
(btw: I just looked on thomann.de and their price hasn't moved in
years, it's still 499 Euros.)
If interested mail me privately and we'll work it out.

This was an answer to Raphael Bollen, but as the mail was returned (exceeded
storage allocation), I send it here, I hope it's also useful fore someone
else :)
BTW I'm being testing the card and it works perfect now for analog I/O (with
this "fix"), the Delta66 is a great card ;)

That's exactly what I did, and it works... Are you sure you removed the
snd_ice1712 module first from the kernel with rmmod? it shouldn't appear when
you do lsmod before trying to load the new kernel. Try to load it manually
first with:
modprobe snd_ice1712 model=vx442
and then if it works, add the line:
options snd_ice1712 model=vx442
to a file /etc/modprobe.d/delta66_revE_hack_vx442
(the name of that file can be whatever you like, but it has to be in that
path).
If your problem is exactly the "revisionE" of the Delta66, that works for
sure... good luck!! :)
Jorge.

I just got Ubuntu Studio up and running. I'm using Rosegarden for MIDI sequencing. It works great, but I noticed there are no rgd device files for my aging Yamah DX7s or Roland D-110. I've looked online, but can't find anything. Before I give up and create my own, I thought I'd ask on this list to see if anyone knows where I might find files for these two devices.
Thanks,
-Clarke
The 1.0.10 package released a few weeks ago seems to have some packaging
issues (missing files etc...). Therefore a new package has been uploaded
that should fix these issues.

I just notice last night that sometime during my adventures in Linuxsampler I've managed to break amarok, which has always been solid.
Now, it seems that amarok won't play .m4a file. I have a HUGE songlist, and it's always played whatever was in the songlist, but not now! I'm obviously overwritten something while I was installing packages, but I have no idea what file I'm looking for. Does anyone here have ANY idea off the top of your collective head how I get amarok back to the way it used to be?
Thanks. I think once I get that fixed, I'm done trying to install things. The only thing I've ultimately managed to do is break amarok.
Thanks to everyone.
Hi!
Well, first of all, thanks very much to Asmo Koskinen, Arthur, Paul Coccoli,
Florian Schmidt and Raphael Bollen for the replies! (sorry if I forgot
anyone) :)
I identified the problem at last, and even better, I got a "partial"
solution!! :D
Raphael Bollen pointed exactly where my problem was: my Delta66 is a
new 'revision E', which has changed a chip on it, and the actual alsa driver
ice1712 couldn't manage it correctly (no output sound, and no input signal).
The bug is well explained here (more users with exactly the same issue):
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3327
Now, there is not a fixed driver for this, BUT, <maligor> from #alsa at
freenode helped me to make the kernel load the driver from another card: the
VX442 driver, and the result is that I have analog I/O on my 4 I/O, and all
the routing, etc works as expected :)
I have only the 2 I/O S/PDIF disabled now, but I can wait until an apropiate
fix is out (I don't use them really)...
...So I'm the happiest man in the world now ;)
To try the new setup, I've routed Ardour (playing backwards a session at
varying speeds), to another ardour (recording the result), done some mix, and
export it... really psychodelic sound, and very powerful setup and apps, this
is just great :)
If you are curious, it's the 4º track at: http://virb.com/spes
BTW, I'm using Ardour 2.0.5 now (Kubuntu 7.10 here), and it's incredible how
much has this App improved from time to time I see it, Paul Davis & co are
doing an amazing work!! ;) I'm going to compile the latest version
tomorrow... but this is already more than I could expect for a 100% free
platform already, just great!
Thanks very much again to everyone! and have fun :)
Jorge.
I had decided to give Linuxsampler a thorough try, since many here recommend it. After FINALLY getting it to output actual sound, I realize that I also need the editor part (gigaedit), which of course, is NOT included in my distro's repositories. So, I wander over to the web site and find it in source format, which I can't get to compile yet. I need to figure out what all I need to get to compile it.
However, which I was on the web site, I notice that there is a Windows version of both the sampler and editor. I figure I would give it a try. As much as I really want to get away from Windows, I also really wanted to try the sampler and editor in an environment that I know works (audio and MIDI work flawlessly on my XP setup).
After installing it, it can't find any sound cards, and I can't force it to find either of the two that are available (1 usb and 1 on-board), even though every other program I use on Windows (Sonar, Soundforge) finds both. Apparently, linuxsampler insists on using asio, while everything else I use is happy with wdm.
I give up. I'm not too enthusiastic about breaking my entire Windows audio system to try out the sampler. I'm not a total noob, but this is just too frustrating.
I read this
"The kernel-multimedia alternative kernel is no longer
available with Mandriva Linux 2008 Spring. ... Despite its
name, it has not been specifically targeted towards multimedia
use for some time."
here: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2008.1_Notes#kernel-multimedia_removed
I'm wondering if anyone knows the right kernel package to run with
Mandriva 2008.1. Maybe I have to create my own, but I'm not too
happy about that as it tends to break things like proprietary kernel
modules, at least when *I* build a kernel.
Any thoughts on this folks?
Thanks....
