Hi all,
in several audio devices I observe a minimal block size setting of 1 ms:
- In the Echo Layla 3G, it is possible to configure smaller block sizes,
but the driver or device seems to use 3 fragments instead of 2.
- With the RME HDSP9652, I hear artifacts when I configure a fragment
size which is smaller than 1 ms.
- With the RME HDSP9632 I am not able to configure a smaller fragment
size at all.
Does anyone know about the source of this mystic border? If it is in the
ALSA abstraction or driver layer, what is the reason for this? Is it
simply the assumption that nobody needs shorter fragment sizes, and
shorter fragment sizes are likely to produce xruns? Or is this just
caused by the hardware?
Thanks for any hints!

Hi everyone
I've just released a new album made with tapeutape + jack-rack +
freewheeling (and rezound for basic sample editing).
It is released under a Creative Commons BY-SA licence so you can
download, resample, give or sell it, as long as it remains under the
same licence.
You can listen to it or download it from :

Hello all, yada-yada (*)
The paper submission deadline for LAC2009 is just a little
more than 100 hours away, and the response so far has been
rather disappointing, to the point that there would not be
much of a conference at all.
The deadline could be extended by two weeks (29 Jan, midnight),
but that would make sense only if we know there will be
sufficient submissions.
So if you are planning to submit a paper, or present a
workshop please let me know *ASAP*, and in any case before
the original deadline (15 Jan, midnight).
Ciao,
(*) This means 'best wishes for 2009 !'

Hello group -
I'm a pretty experienced linux \ ubuntu user trying to rip a CD with
.aiff files and convert them to some format that more easily understood
by some of my not-so-high-tech audio equipment. A .wav format comes to
mind but I'm flexible.
Do you know of utility that will do this? I tried GRIP and even loaded
flac, but probably got it wrong. Just FYI the disc is readable and
plays (.aiff format and all) with Rhythymbox, so I know that much works :->
many thanks

Announcing the DSSI Soft Synth Interface version 1.0 release:
http://dssi.sourceforge.net/
DSSI is an audio plugin API for software instruments and effects,
based on LADSPA, the ALSA sequencer event types, and OSC (Open
Sound Control) communications.
DSSI is now supported by six full-featured hosts, several
specialized hosts, and at least twenty-two DSSI plugins. (See the
above URL for a list.)
This release contains one small addition to the DSSI API itself,
allowing for communication of the sample rate to DSSI UIs. Since the
DSSI API has been stable now (with minor additions) for four and a
half years, and since most active interest in further extending a
Linux softsynth plugin standard has been absorbed by the LV2
project, it seems appropriate to call this release "version 1.0".
In addition to the API addition, code and documentation updates have
been made in the DSSI release itself, and in FluidSynth-DSSI,
hexter, and Xsynth-DSSI. New versions of each are available at the
above URL. Specific changes include:
DSSI 1.0.0:
* Addition to API of the new 'sample-rate' OSC method.
* Addition of a Karplus-Strong example synth.
* Documentation improvements.
* Updates for newer gcc/glibc, for Mac OS X, and for newer JACK.
* Addition of man pages thanks to Mark Hymers and Debian.
FluidSynth-DSSI 1.0.0:
* Fixed a bug that caused distorted sound when hosted by Aldrin.
* Updates for Mac OS X.
* Changed GUI to handle (ignore) the 'sample-rate' method.
* Added '-test' option to allow testing the GUI without a host.
hexter 0.6.2:
* Updates for newer GTK+.
* Changed GUI to handle (ignore) the 'sample-rate' method.
Xsynth-DSSI 0.9.2:
* Updates for newer gcc/glibc, RPM-based distros, Mac OS X, and
newer GTK+.
* Changed GUI to handle (ignore) the 'sample-rate' method.
* Added '-test' option to allow testing the GUI without a host.
Enjoy!

Hi
I have been around several distributions for my music makeing. What I
need is a steaddy distribution for music makeing and some support for
wireless etc...
I allways seems to end up using 64Studio it's the only distribution I
can use without haveing a lot of x-runs, but I can't get my wireless
netcard working.
My hardware is a Lenovo T61 and RME Multiface + PCMCIA card.
I'm a noob in compiling my own kernels so I'm most confident using
pre-compiled kernels, is there any help to get out there :)
Hope this was understandable.

Hi
I have start a new project, a set of audio plugins, the first idea is port all the ZynAddSubFx effects to LADSPA
and add my small contibution with some others.
I have been ported yet the Chorus,Alienwah, Reverb, Phaser and EQ Zyn effects..... and some more ...all the
plugins are in individual libs that you need to compile separated, that was the first idea in order make easy to
revise the code, if someone wants to do. No tarballs are relased at this momment ... only CVS access.
Also RDF files are not available and any kind of help to create is welcome in this regard, rt problems or
comments are welcome, please check in:
