Hi all.
I don't do any midi stuff.
I've messed around with it a bit and understand the basics but I'm wondering
if a certain midi "feature" (not sure what to call it) exists.
Let's say you have a pre-recorded bass track......
And you create a midi file out of it....
Would it be possible to trigger each individual note of that midi file with,
say, a kick pedal in real, human time?
This would mean that every kick drum hit would trigger a new note (the next
one in the series) but would still …
[View More]be triggered by a human being's sense of
rhythm.
I'm sure this exists but I have no idea of what it's called.
And, of course, what are the best open source options to achieve something
like this?
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks.

Hey all,
Since the subject of temperaments and tunings came up I just wanted to
mention that I'm such a passionate devotee of non-12-equal tunings and
microtonality, that I started an organization called UnTwelve (
www.untwelve.org), whose mission is to program and educate people on music
in various different tunings and temperaments.
You'll also be interested to know that I hacked on Aeolus 6 years or so ago
and added a custom Just Intonation scale using only the 3rd and 7th
harmonics. The …

I heard some v good reviews of tartini http://miracle.otago.ac.nz/tartini/
on the tunings yahoo list. So tried to compile and run it. So far have not
managed to get it to compile on my debian squeeze
The author claims that it was developed on FC6. Has someone got it to run
on a linux??
Folks,
My system is set up as follows: computer with Asus Essence ST sound card
out to Trends Audio ta-10.1 amp to anthony gallo acoustics speakers.
In the alsamixer console program i note that the meters turn red as you
get towards the top but i think that's just a pre-set color band and
isn't really telling me anything about clipping or over-driving the
card. More important is the 'dB gain' indicator. Correct?
I seem to hear that when the dB gain is at 0 (volume at 100%) and i've
…
[View More]adjusted my integrated amp to the same (as far as i can tell) volume
that i would have listed to with the alsamixer control at 70 (dB gain
-18.00) that the sound is much fuller with better bass. My mate seems
to hear that as well.
Does this sound right? Could it really be that dB 0 sounds better on
this card in a noticeable way or is it just a psycho acoustic trick? Are
digital volume controls a "bad thing"? I think i've read that before
somewhere so again, i may just be psyching myself out.
Getting up to change the volume is a pain, but i might just invest (or
learn how to make) an outboard volume control if it really is that much
better at dB 0.

Hello all.
I installed festige 0.4 for ubuntu with removing fst package (since it contains it's own, patched one). When launched, it gives an error:
/**********************************\
$ festige
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/festige/festige.py", line 111, in <module>
ladish = os.getenv(HOME)+"/.festige"
NameError: name 'HOME' is not defined
\**********************************/
This is actual also for other two users, one is osx-demo ( :) ), and other is for …
[View More]my motherm where I never work.
...But it works well under my other accont, which now I use only to have some settings (passwords, notes, etc).
I can't remember/find what bad things I made.
Downgrading to version 0.3 looks ugly.

Hey guys!
Typically a mono mic would transmit a signal only on one of the channels, L
or R. Is it possible to somehow make it sound on both channels, but simply
duplicate the signal. It is ok for a mic to be mono, but I want it to sound
from both speakers, not just from one.

hi list,
I am looking for a way to let LV2 instrument plugins
respond only to a certain MIDI channel.
This might be possible in an integrated environment
like ardour3 or qtractor - I did not investigate this since
I need something like a standalone host (to add LV2
support to chino).
I found the following hosts capable of loading instrument
plugins:
lv2_jack_host
zynjacku
ingen
but found no way of assigning MIDI channels in either
of them, they all seem to listen "omni".
Ingen …
[View More]maybe comes nearest. I looked at all the internal
objects but found no solution (e.g. their properties
dialogues are incomprehensible to me). At least it
allows to put several 'event inputs' that appear as
separate jack-midi inputs, so I could prepend a filter.
If there is no other way, I'll go that one. If I missed
something and someone comes up with a simpler
solution, I'd be happy as well.
greetings,

I've heard it said that the first thing to deteriorate as you get old is the eyesight. I don't remember what the second thing was.
I also don't remember the name of a tool that (IIRC) Fons created, which had a very simple GTK GUI, into which you can direct a JACK stream of float's, and it lights up an indicator if there are NaN's, denormals, etc etc.
I know I have it here, because I've used it. But I'm staring at the contents of /usr/local/bin, and none of these appear to be it. Can anyone …
[View More]remind me of the name of this useful little device?
I'm trying to track down the "WOW THIS IS WAY TOO F'ING LOUD" problem in Monosynth. Thanks.
(Also, on a related note, it turns out from looking at the source code that MonoSynth DOES have an LFO... it just doesn't show up in the DSSI interface, sadly.)
