[OT] guitar pickups: how to get separate signals for each string?

hi *! a guitarist friend of mine is looking for ways to get six separate outputs from a guitar, one for each string. he has a godin multiac, which comes with a 13-pin connector meant for the roland gr series guitar synthesizers - i wonder what would be involved in using the signal directly? if you've tried this, or know someone who has, please holler! next time i can get my hands on the instrument, i'll try some hi-z preamps (i guess it's a more or less raw piezo output)... also, i'd be interested to learn of replacement pickups for other guitars in humbucker or single coil format that provide six signal outs... best, jörn

You want a hex-aphonic pickup with a breakout box like this: http://www.unfretted.com/loader.php?LINK=/profs/breakout hex-aphonic pickups systems are available from roland, graphtech,rmc, and a few others I personally have a roland gk2, gk3,and graphtech ghost lb-63 bridge. any of those would work with the above breakout box. If your not one for building a breakout box can be bought, but all the ones i've seen usually sell for over $300 a piece. Nathanael

Klick with jack transport: strange issues

Hi all. Sorry for bad english. I have two issues. 1. klick as slave. I start it with 'klick -j'. The thing is that it skips (doesn't play by sound) huge amount of beats, each after other (or "at a run" - not sure, what sounds more correct). 2. Klick as master. It plays beats with correct speed, according to tempo map (imho, in interactive mode it also should work), but doesn't affect jack transport itself. Of course, i started klick before any other apps, able to be master (for some just disabled this feature).

Card advice: M-aud. Fasttrack vs. Rol. UA25EX vs. ?

Hi all, I'm in the market for a USB audio interface and I thought I'd come to the well for advice. Right now, the main two contenders in the race, because they're available at my local music shop, are M-Audio Fasttrack Pro and Roland/Edirol/cakewalk (they keep rebranding it, I think) UA25EX. Because I've seen them come up on this list, I know they work fairly well with Linux, but I was wondering which you would recommend, or if there is another major contender I should know about. My needs: - Works near flawlessly with Linux! - 2 channels in / Stereo out - reliable 24bit/48khz with "decent" preamps/converters - Integrated Midi would be nice, but isn't absolutely necessary - Phantom power on at least one input. - $150-250 price range The UA25EX is slightly more expensive than the M-audio, is it worth it? Also, until recently, the Tascam US122L was in the race, but I found out that the "MkII" is no longer class-compliant: can someone confirm this? All advice welcome. Thanks, S.M.

Jack problem?

Hello guys! I'm trying out the pianoteq-trail, which is awesome! But I get pretty bad performance, and when I start the app I get this error-msg: Midi thread could not acquire real-time scheduling, error 1 -- Operation not permitted Midi thread could not acquire real-time scheduling, error 1 -- Operation not permitted Midi thread could not acquire real-time scheduling, error 1 -- Operation not permitted Jack error: Cannot use real-time scheduling (RR/5)(1: Operation not permitted) Jack error: AcquireRealTime error Multi-core: could not acquire real-time scheduling, error 1 -- Operation not permitted Do you guys have any idea what the problem might be? Googling it has given me nothing so far! I have both my username and the groupname "audio" setup properly in limits.conf (rtprio, nice and so on) via a tutorial I found a while back. I'm using ubuntu studio 10.04 but with the latest 2.6.38-1-generic kernel. Best regards!

OT - impulse response recording

Hi all, I know that there are some knowledgable people on this list, hence this OT diversion. A friend of mine would like to record some impulse response of various spaces. I don't know the details nor the ultimate goal of this undertaking but the problem was about the bst equipment for such recordings. I know a loud signal is needed (she has a starter gun for that purpose) but unclear about what kind of microphones should be used. Any tips? Ideas? experiences? Thanks a ton in advance. ./MiS

Ardour recording

Hi all, I've got a question regarding Ardour... Is there a possibility to play along with recorded material and not record, and still do the monitoring through Ardour? When I push play the Audio from an unrecorded track mutes and only comes back when I start recording, this is sort of frustrating when trying to make a Punch in with musicians that prefer to hear them self and not the track already recorded... I had no succes finding such an option so what I'm doing now is doing thew monitoring with the rme HDSP mixer... Appreciate your answers Moshe
