Hi everybody,
after my departure from Kubistudio (now it's just a rehersing room) i've
created a new professional free software/open source recording studio in
Milan, the name is T.Rex Studio.
We are still working on it but some information and pictures can be found
here:
http://www.trexstudio.com
Moreover I'd like to share my happiness with you all because just few days
ago a very special guest came here: Mr. Ben Harper.
Here is a nice picture of T.Rex staff with Ben Harper.

From the "Better Late than Never Dept"...
Announcing the _*Linux Audio Musicians Best of 2010 mix*_
Download and view the full playlist of 116 tracks here:

Listen to the continuous radio stream here:

****************************************************************************
Congratulations!!! to the Artists and Bands that made 2010 a bumper year
for well produced and unique music from the Linux Audio Community. This
mix is the biggest yet with over 100 tracks included and over 12 hours
of music to listen to. A hefty selection of guitar music and rock
productions are included in this years mix to complement the large range
of electronica. The variation of styles and genres is superb and as
expected there was lots of off the wall and challenging music produced
during the 2010 period also.
The playlist has been ordered in terms of Genre/Style to make it easier
to separate the tracks out for those with specific tastes and to ensure
the radio stream flows nicely.
If you feel that there is a track missing please feel free to contact me
with details. This is a snapshot of the year so lets make it as complete
as possible.
Enjoy!

Hya,
I've just brought jack-stdout up to scratch.
jack-stdout captures audio from one or more JACK audio-ports and writes
raw data to standard-output.
It can write signed/unsigned 16/24bit integer and 32bit floating-point
data, both big/little endian.
* http://rg42.org/oss/jackstdout/
* git://rg42.org/jack-stdout
example usage - live stream from JACK:
jack-stdout system:capture_1 system:capture_2 \
| oggenc -r -R 48000 -B 16 -C 2 - \
| tee /tmp/recording.ogg \
| oggfwd -p -n "my live stream" localhost 5900 hackme live.ogg
have fun,
robin
greetings!
just wondering if anyone here has used the Keith McMillen SoftStep controller on linux. i believe it's a class-compliant USB device, so it should work fine just connected via USB. failing that, there's a MIDI expander which provides standard MIDI I/O.
there's also some software for programming the device -- it's Win and OSX, so i'm hoping it'll run under Wine.
here's some info about SoftStep:

any comments?...
thanks much..... cheers!

Hello!
About a week ago I linked one of my first productions on Linux (and in
general) here, and I figured I could follow that up with another song that's
a bit newer and better produced =)
It's found at either www.tentenmedia.nu or directly
http://www.tentenmedia.nu/?wp_ct=3 .
This song is completely in swedish and named "Vinter", which in swedish
means "Winter". It's basically guitars, some singing and some rapping!
The lyrics is essentially about the winter season, and how most revert into
their shell with depressions/less social behaviour, and how this is reversed
as the season passes and the sun starts to show itself. It's more poetic
then classical lyrics, which is reflected in the rap etc. Styleistically
it's not something you hear every day, which is both good and bad. I think
some will like the rapping, and some won't! =)
The production in it's entirety was produced with:
* Ardour 2.8.11
* Calf-git-plugins almost exclusively
* JAMin
* Lexicon Omega USB-card + a pretty cheap condensermic
Anyway, please do listen and comment on it! Every comment is happily
recieved, be it good or bad. I think there's some swedes here aswell who'll
actually understand the song lol.
Thank you in advanced for listening!
Cheers
Hello all,
I recently left my church and since they needed a hardware synth more than
me I gave them my Roland XP-30. I needed a controller still so I picked up
an old Evolution MK-149 for crazy cheap. When I got it I plugged it into my
studio machine that has a M-Audio Delta1010lt and it worked flawlessly. So I
ordered a super cheap USB midi
cable<http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0017H4EBG/sr=8-1/qid=1299703370/ref=olp_p…>from
Amazon to hook it up to my laptop. The midi cable is plug and play and
while I still had the Roland XP-30 I hooked it up and tested it and it
worked without issue. However, when I try to use it with the Evolution
MK-149 I got strange unusable behavior. If playing the same not it would
play 50% of the not properly and not send a midi off 10%. It would also play
a wrong note 5% of the time and drop about 50% of the notes. I hooked it up
to qmidiroute and confirmed that the midi messages themselves are getting
messed up. Does anyone have any advice for tracking down what the issue
is/how to correct it? It's strange that this combination of hardware doesn't
work. I may hook up my electronic drum kit to test it further.
Thanks in advance,
Daniel Worth

I recently (around two months ago) i make reinstallation of my Linux.
Ok in the old set the output microfone was working fines,
And now have something very stranger:
I can hear the output in the internal speaker and external speakers.
I can hear what i say in the microphone internal, yes i hear, but
arecord, gnome-sound-record, audacity
doesnt record anything, is like i dont have microphone because they dont
capture nothing.
What happens? Some suggestion to solve the issue?

Thanks Paul. I think it may be one of those things that's just down to
hardware intricacies.
And thanks Hartmut. Lots of good info for me to look into. I've tried
various distros (I'm on KXStudio currently and it's the best so far). I just
tried a live-DVD of Puredyne (got more xruns than KX) and I'm downloading AV
Linux to give it a go. But I'll also investigate some of the more technical
recommendations you gave.
It's only because I have some kind of perfectionist/purist/OCD thing that I
care about these xruns. They don't (so far) happen during use, only when
loading and closing certain applications. I can live with that if need be,
but I love when operations are smooth and neat.

Hello!
This song was recorded late last year, and was the first full-length song i
mixed/recorded. It's a pretty innovative (meaning not really similar to the
original) cover of El Perro Del Mars - Change of Heart.
All of the recording/mixing was made with Ardour and the Calf-git plugin
pack + some various plugins.
The video to the song was made with Cinelerra, ProjectM+glc and GIMP.

Both video and music is among the first things I've ever produced using
respective software, so bear with me for some minor errors ;).
Please let me know what you think! And if you like the song, please do
spread it! =)
