Hi,
Once I had jack-rack racks with names like 'Lennon' and 'tube amp' in
it, but can't find them online. Where those patches coming from you
Noack? Can't remember it...

Thank you Martin :)
I guess I've to do a cross-post, to correct misinformation :).
$ uname -a
Linux debian 2.6.39.1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 7 01:40:05 CEST 2011 x86_64
GNU/Linux
$ jackd --sync -Xalsarawmidi -dalsa -r48000 -p1024
jackdmp 1.9.8
As expected this does work.
$ jackd --sync -Xalsarawmidi -dalsa -r48000 -p64
jackdmp 1.9.8
Unexpected, this does work too :). Hm?
I don't know what was bad, that it didn't work before. Tired, making a
typo? Choosing a bad combination of values?
I've got it ... -p520 oops.
Thank you very much. Btw. I'll use ADAT too, regarding to severe weather
I didn't get around to test/use the card + ADAT. I just listened by the
cards outputs to a youtube video. I guess this night I'll have fun with
the card :).

Ralf
Hi,
...
I'd like to fix some videos that have partially out of sync
video and audio, meaning that beginning at a certain point
in the video the audio is suddenly out of sync by a couple
of seconds. There's no constant change, the delay seems
fixed once it's there.
I wonder how to fix such a thing. The files are xvid
encoded videos and vbr mp3 audio inside avi containers.
I thought it should be reasonably easy to cut and move the
audio (re-encode if unavoidable, but I know it's in principle
possible without) and put it back in a container, but I didn't
manage.
Can someone recommend a program/workflow that would allow this?
I tried:
- Avidemux: ...
- openshot: ...
- kino: ...
- openmovieeditor: ...
- cinelerra-cv: ...
- pitivi: ...
- kdenlive: ...
I thought it would be a simple task, really nothing fancy. Seems like I
was wrong.
Regards,
Philipp
Phillipp,
I had a problem with out of sync audio using a camera that recorded
using VBR. Avidemux was able to fix this with Audio/Build VBR Time Map
http://www.avidemux.org/admWiki/doku.php?id=using:vbr_mp3
I can't move or stretch audio in Avidemux, but this time map function
fixed my out of sync problems.

probably not acid, probably not techno, but i don't really care!
probably a little on the unfinished side, but i've swivelled back to
programming again, so unless i release it now it's never likely to see
the light of day.
http://jwm-art.net/audio/acid_techno_test_version2.mp3
you'll notice a few tips taken from criticism of the previous version,
namely, it's faster.
james.
Sorry, this is OT regarding to Linux, but not for audio in general and
perhaps it could protect some people from the list against a popular
misconception about lightning protection.
Does somebody know how (in)effectively overvoltage protections for wall
sockets in pre-WWII residential buildings are? I suspect that were I
live, will be no pre-protections. It seems to be that a concrete-footing
ground electrode and ground fault interrupter were the only things that
were retrofitted and btw. I'm even not sure if the concrete-footing
ground electrode isn't just a fake.
AFAIK know consumer wall socket overvoltage protections are completely
useless, when living in a pre-WWII residential building.
Does anybody know if there's a way to protect equipment against damages
by lightning when there are no pre-protections?
Regards,
Ralf
The Lambda Studio looks like a decent interface, USB powerd, five input, 2
track simultaneous recording, MIDI, Mike preamps, etc.
Has anyone successfully used these in Linux, Alsa, Jack?
(Since my rusty-trusty Dman2044 with its nice chunky breakout box has not had
drivers since Win98, I DO need an alterative with proper connections!)
Oops, it didn't came through the list, perhaps because it was in HTML.

Log (+ a real time log, when bread-and-butter are important and the
following steps are done in passing, so even a little bit referring to
the off-topic thread 'time', in a context were milliseconds buried in
imperceptibility, this might be a useful information for those who will
do the same, no sarcasm)
It's not that time consuming, when there's nothing else to do, but
tedious when doing it in passing and a good reason that users have to do
such things from time to time, because packages maintainers doing it for
free, have a life beyond Linux too.

Hi Linux Audio Land!
I've been thinking recently just how useful it would be- certainly to
Linux audio distros and (Linux (audio)) newbs, if we had an app that
could tell you what sound systems are currently active and let you
test them- both audio in and output for ALSA, JACK and Pulse at the
very least but FFADO, esound, phonon and whatever else would be great
to see included too. Even for a Linux old-timer like me its tough
remembering all the different mixers, daemons and diagnostic utils and
commands to work out where you are when you have sound trouble. If it
can't fix your problems automagically then it would be good if it
could advise the user on how to get their desired sound system
functional, if not optimised as in the case of JACK as I think that
could end up being its own app or should be integrated into qjackctl.
JACK gives more useful error messages now which should help in putting
something like this together but AFAIK there's nothing out there like
this atm.
Anyone know of an existing app like this or if work has already begun
on such a tool?
Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard is a MIDI events generator and receiver. It
doesn't produce any sound by itself, but can be used to drive a MIDI
synthesizer (either hardware or software, internal or external). You can use
the computer's keyboard to play MIDI notes, and also the mouse. You can use
the Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard to display the played MIDI notes from another
instrument or MIDI file player.
Changes

* RtMIDI-1.0.14 with Jack MIDI support.
* New network MIDI driver (UDP multicast) compatible with IpMIDI and QmidiNet.
* New platform: Symbian^3 port.
* New translations: Dutch by Wouter Reckman, and Swedish by Magnus Johansson.
* Fixed a crash when changing the octave base while channel is 10.
Thanks to Mike Cookson for the report.
* New build options:
* RTMIDI_DRIVER: selects the RtMIDI backend. Default depends on the OS.
Allowed values: ALSA, JACK, COREMIDI, IRIX, WINMM, NET.
* PROGRAM_NAME: selects the executable name.

Hello, all,
Hydrogen has some very nice sounding sets, but in each and every one of
them, the open hi-hat is not muted by the pedal. I was wondering whether
that was somehow configurable or whether it was just idiosyncratic to
hydrogen. I'm not using the GUI, of course, just driving the engine
through midi, so perhaps that is the reason for this behaviour?
Cheers,
S.M.
