Hi,
I had Aliki build from source too, and did definetly run the compiled
binaries without effort.
I also had a look at the dependencies, but as stated before, i didnt
want to break my installation...
Im using Ubuntu Studio 12.04 64Bit.

Ive seen some postings here recently recommending ffmpeg, so I thought I'd
ask this (somewhat political) question:
All that I know is that as an ordinary mostly-ignoramus user, Ive used
ffmpeg on and off and then one day my debian updates told me ffmpeg is
obsolete use libav.
Did that and have found that some things that used to work with ffmpeg
stopped with libav (dont exactly remember the details).
Currently it appears that for using ffmpeg one needs to compile from source.
Since people are recommending use of ffmpeg am I to understand that the
headache is worth it?
http://blog.pkh.me/p/13-the-ffmpeg-libav-situation.html seems to say that
ffmpeg is integrating libav patches and not vice versa
[Sorry for asking a political question]

Thanks, nobody, for ANSWERING BOB's QUESTION. Bob, I've listened to a
Cloud ribbon mic; it had a nice low noise floor. Maybe not as smooth as an
RCA, richer than a Royer. Prices around a grand on the street. I've used
the Royer stereo ribbon quite a bit for NASCAR on CBS and Fox, as an
ambience mic away from the track. Nice and hot for a ribbon. Haven't really
had ears on any others.
Hi,
I spent the last days looking for a program that allows for an easy
mapping of OSC messages to MIDI. Surprisingly, I couldn't find anything
useful. I found some various python scripts that would either not work
or request the OSC message to have a specific format, which is not
suitable for me. Basically, I'm looking for a simple way to hook up
TouchOSC from my Android tablet to control my HW synth with NRPNs. Is
there nothing around?
I was also thinking of maybe coding something up myself. Liblo and
RtMidi look like a good point to start. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks for your hints,
Jeremia
Hello!
I recently did a new song that's hopefully eventually going to be in a
smaller upcoming project to showcase some open source/free/Linux stuff. The
song is is like 90%+ finished, and available at:
https://soundcloud.com/zthmusic/open ...or via direct links:
http://www.ironink.se/music/zthmusic-Open.flachttp://www.ironink.se/music/zthmusic-Open.ogghttp://www.ironink.se/music/zthmusic-Open.mp3
It's mainly consisting of:
- Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra samples for the orchestral stuff
- TAL NoiseMaker for the bass
- Salamander drums for the drums (maybe the hihat is from The Open Source
Drumkit though, can't remember)
- Various Calf and Linuxdsp-plugins for processing
- Pianoteq for the piano (not open source or free, but Linux atleast =))
..everything composed, mixed and made in ardour3.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this! Thanks a ton for listening
and for your time! =)
Regards,
Gabriel/zth
Hello
Aliki always crashes with "buffer overflow" if I try to load a sweep
file (just generated with default values) from capture window.
Is it a known bug and is there any work around?
Anyone with experience using the UCA202? I tried it the other day
using audacity and found that it played and recorded just fine if it
was only doing one or the other. But, if I had existing tracks in
audacity and played those (only 1 stereo) and recorded a 2nd track ...
the recorded track sounded like it was filtered though a motorboat
engine (sputter, sputter ...).
I did the recording again directing the output to an existing device
and all worked fine. So the setup seems to be useable. I am thinking
that audacity (alsa?) can't read+write to the device?
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04. Didn't have jack running.

I installed my first Arch system about 9 months ago and was thrilled by
the nimbleness of it. It was also a fine learning experience. Somehow
I forgot to install a CD/DVD burning program at the time of install, so
in order to do that I needed to update the whole system and that's when
I hit the symlinks and probably a couple other issues (probably mid
summer by this time). So over the past weekend I installed fresh
system. It looked daunting on the surface, but it wasn't at all. Just
take notes from the help file only on what you need to cut down on the
clutter of information. I keep all my audio projects on separate
internal drives so reinstalling that stuff is never an issue. Hope you
guys continue to have success with it!
