I built a new PC and installed Ubuntu Studio 16.04.
The PC has a firewire card.
lsmod | grep fire
firewire_ohci 40960 0
firewire_core 65536 1 firewire_ohci
crc_itu_t 16384 1 firewire_core
ffado-diag claims these aren't there:
libraw1394 ....
libavc1394 ....
libiec61883 ...
libxml++-2.6 .
But, apt says they are.
jack_control fails to start the server if the firewire driver is selected.
But, starts ok if alsa is selected.
Not sure where to go from here. Any ideas/pointers appreciated.
My last 3 PC's, UBS 16.04, firewire, jack, just worked OOTB.

Hi all,
after starting JACK2 manually (no DBUS, no KX studio session or anything
automatic, other than starting it from /etc/rc.local on boot up) on jack
master server, I also start the netmanager and wait for jack clients to
connect.
jack_load netmanager
When clients connect I have them ssh to this jack master server and run a
script about what connections are necessary between the master's sound card
and the client's exposed ports.
This is fine and works if jack clients lose lose connection and have to
reconnect.
This does not work well when something is wrong with the jack master and
the audio is restarted. The clients will reconnect and the client will pop
up (f.e. in qjackctl), but the necessary connections will not be
reestablished. The ideal way to automate this would be to have jack master
take care of all its connections and have netmanager trigger the execution
of a script when a client connects.
How can I do that without using application requiring an X server (thus a
bash script)?? More specifically I want to know how I can trigger a script
that carries out the connections, not what should the script contain...
Thank you in advance for your help!
Hello
I have a quick question. I have an old MOTU Ultralite that works well
with a thinkpad, which has a firewire I/O. Current Thinkpads don't have
firewire, but some have thunderbolt. My old soundcard would work on a
new thinkpad with an adapter, like it does with other OS's?
Thanks!

jalv.select is a little gtkmm GUI to select lv2 plugs from a list and
run them with jalv.
Features:
select jalv interpreter from combo box,
select LV2 plugin from list,
select preset to load from menu,
search plugins by regex or plugin class,
reload lilv world to catch new installed plugins or presets,
load plugin with selected preset,
minimize app to systray (global Hotkey SHIFT+ESCAPE),
wake up app from systray (global Hotkey SHIFT+ESCAPE):
left mouse click on systray to show or hide app
right mouse click to show quit menu item
command-line start-up options:
beside that, you could now mark plugs as your "Favorite" to concatenate
them to a Favorite list. This will give you fast access to your beloved
plugs.

In less than a month the "Sonoj Convention" shall happen.
[quote]Admission is free. You will be able to enjoy demonstrations,
talks and workshops about music production through open source software.
Hands-on tutorials and workflow presentations can be expected.
Everything will be recorded and released as online videos afterwards.

Please consider helping us by donating and spreading the word. You will
get some appreciation through the "Reward" system on the website.
For that we are asking for some modest donations here:
https://www.startnext.com/en/sonoj
Currently it looks like that this will not succeed, as you can see from
the link above. This is the usual "all or nothing" platform that only
gives you money if the goal is reached, otherwise donors get their money
back.
However, despite submitting the event announcements and several updates
to nearly one hundred on-topic websites, magazines (including posting it
ourselves on KVR, Reddit etc.) and blogs there is nearly zero response.
That excludes the Linux Audio Scene itself, which was very supportive to
this day (at least the news, not the donations).
I was hoping that Sonoj could be an event that brings in people from the
"outside", that are not already well connected with Linux Audio. It
seems I was wrong.
So here I am in one of the last places I wanted to ask for donations,
because this is the crowd that usually already gives a lot, be it their
own time, development of software or actual donations to well deserving
projects.

Hi there,
I have setup an audio system around jackd based on ubuntu studio (14.04
LTS). I have written various scripts to setup jackd and clients. It is
tested and up running. Now I would like to add a cmd in rc.local in order
for the whole system to be brought up at boot.
I tried
#set limits
su - nass -c "ulimit -r 95 -l unlimited" 2>&1 | tee -a /tmp/audio.log
#verify limits
su - nass -c "ulimit -r -l" 2>&1 | tee -a /tmp/audio.log
#boot audio stuff
su - nass -c "cd /home/nass/audio_setup/scripts ; bash ./cmdaudio start"
2>&1 | tee -a /tmp/audio.log
However the ulimit "set" command fails with message
ulimit: real-time priority: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted
I read that ulimits are not ready yet at this time. Is there a way to
forcefully "bring them up" in order to have them set for the user "nass"
before starting the audio scripts ??
Thank you
Hi
I have been offered a usb fiio dac and i was thinking
1) compatability with linux?
2) are there better more linux friendly DACs?
whats the concensus here?
Hi all,
I have a BCR2000 and would like to use a script to set some values on these
knobs and buttons.
amidi should be able to help me do that but I somehow cannot properly set
the name of the port in order to use it. Note, jackd server is up and
running and then I also use the "aj2midid" midi bridge to populate hw and
software midi ports in jack,
So even though I thought this would be easy , I am stuck somewhere.
The command I am trying to use is
amidi -p"14:0" -S <3x bytes depicting the midi CC command>
now port "14" SHOULD be the "Midi Through port as it appears in qjackctl's
"midi" tab. I got it from
$ aconnect -i -o
client 0: 'System' [type=kernel]
0 'Timer '
1 'Announce '
client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel]
0 'Midi Through Port-0'
client 16: 'TerraTec DMX6Fire' [type=kernel]
0 'MIDI-Front DMX6fire 0'
32 'Wavetable DMX6fire 0'
client 24: 'Hoontech SoundTrack Audio DSP24' [type=kernel]
0 'MIDI-1 Hoontech/STA DSP24 2'
32 'MIDI-2 Hoontech/STA DSP24 2'
client 28: 'Hoontech SoundTrack Audio DSP24' [type=kernel]
0 'MIDI-1 Hoontech/STA DSP24 3'
32 'MIDI-2 Hoontech/STA DSP24 3'
client 32: 'BCR2000' [type=kernel]
0 'BCR2000 MIDI 1 '
1 'BCR2000 MIDI 2 '
2 'BCR2000 MIDI 3 '
but running "amidi -p14:0 -S <hexbytes>" returns
cannot open port "14:0": No such file or directory
What am I doing wrong?
thank you in advance for your help
