I'm the (un?)lucky owner of an M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB audio
interface and I'm having some serious problems getting this device to
record audio reliably under Linux.
I've been using arecord and occasionally Audacity for all of my
testing. My problem is this: Recording a take works about 80% of the
time. In the remaining ~20% of cases, the captured audio is extremely
loud with severe digital distortion. Once this problem shows up, it
persists for any subsequent takes. The only way I've found to make
the problem go away, at least temporarily, is to power-cycle the Fast
Track Pro.
I considered the possibility that this particular device might be
defective, but it seems to work wonderfully under Windows.
I'm calling out to other Fast Track Pro users in the hope that someone
out there has encountered the same problem and better still, found a
solution.
Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated!

Hi.
Quite a shot into the dark, but: Is anyone here by chance into
eurorack modular and has tried the Expert Sleepers ES-8 USB Interface
with Linux yet? It claims to be class compliant, but you never know...

I used to try to keep my software as stable as possible by avoiding
upgrades for as long as possible, but it ended up being troublesome,
because then you have to compile your own libraries, and things tend
to go out of hand when you want to receive bug fixes from later
versions.
My question is: How do you people keep an updated system stable? Do
you wipe your drive clean and start over every ubuntu LTS release?
If you are not on a debian based distro, how do you handle the lack of
a kxstudio repo?
Thanks to all!
I'm thinking of getting a new 'pooter for music, and also thinking of making
it one of the new Ryzen ones. I don't think there is much point in going for
more than quad core. The 1500X looks like a good bet 3.5 to 3.7G, and not
overly expensive.
On (say) an asus motherboard with on-board radeon graphics. I'm not really
fussed about the graphics, but these seem to have better Linux support than
Nvidea ones (especially for RT kernels).
The one think I've no idea about is the sound card. I've got a positively
ancient 2496 that survived 3 PCs so far, but I think it's time for an upgrade.
Anyone any ideas about a well supported PCI-e one· It would be nice to have
balanced IO for a start!
Suggestions welcome!

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
A Case of Käse
A fun jumpy track made using the free oscillator-less synth Triple
Cheese (apart from the drums and the first 4 bars which is something
else).
Camembert électrique and glissandoz.
Cheers.

This is another piece done without any BPM ticking behind. Again,
smooth and relaxed, piano based, perhaps even intimate. Notes are not
exactly falling precisely on the spots. Accent is given to the piano
theme, with some synth bass and other synth support.
Another perhaps "pensive" piece, where what was important was to
capture the improvisation and not refining it ad vitam aeternam. I
also think that I do not have yet the skills required to refine such a
spontaneous expression while still keeping its essence.
This said, mixing a solo piano is not easy at all. The pianoteq
modeling even has the noises of the hammers and the sustain pedal,
which makes me smile as this was played on a Novation Launchkey 49
keyboard.
Enjoy. And cheers.

Hi all,
It's been quite a while since I last posted any songs I believe so here are
three (four) of them to remedy that.
Been working on these during the year and finally took some time to try and
put an end to them.
The songs where mostly done by myself but the last one is a collaborative
adventure with a guest singer.

Using primarily MusE (the coming 3.0 release) with various plugins, Calf ,
Addictive Drums, Luftikus and droves of others.

And for good measure here's a live video we just recently released, Linux
(and MusE) was only involved in finalizing the audio here but still :)

Have a good ending and a happy new year!

The thread is missing the last replies Motu did regarding this issue. They
simply stated that too many people had problems when using more than 24
channels in Class Compliant mode so they had basicly put a cap on it and
referred people to the Motu driver that would let People use more than
24channels. This is very unfortunate and it seems Motu doesn't really care
about all Class Compliant users that did not have problems running higher.
To me it is strange to put a cap and not take into account whether one is
running 44k or 192 or something in between.
Also I would really like to be able to use the web GUI over the USB link to
save the cost of an AVB switch and still be able to running AVB between two
devices.
