It seems everyone is dropping support for 32 bit machines these days - including
a number of Linux distros.
It makes me wonder how long it will be before single core machines go the same
way. Has anyone seen any hint of that yet?
I think it was LAC 2008 where I first heard discussion on how to plan for
multi-core kit - not that I was touching any code back then :)

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hi everybody,
i recently dug out my Steinberg UR-22 interface after not using it for
several months.
During playback, i experience random clicks and pops
(s.b. encountered a similar problem with OSX:
https://www.steinberg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=157&t=92352)
They don't seem to be on recordings or bounces, but make me crazy while
working with it.
At first i thought it was an unfaithful combination of programs, but it
happens with simple mplayer playback as well,
with or without JACK.
I have to add that the clicks sound fairly "analog", not like a "one"
sample.
Anybody experienced something similar ? Can't remember this happened the
last time i used it ...
Best,
Niklas

Hello,
I got speaker stands from the Yamaha HS5 powered speakers. So they are
at ear level on each side of the desk. This results in hearing the
music not as it comes from the speakers, but directly from the center
of the monitor. Which is nice. One would think the audio comes from
the monitor. To this the HS8 subwoofer sits on the ground under the
desk to the left. To the left is also some 12x12 audio foam tacked
to the wall, for guitar recording. The problem with this is that when a
track is panned completely to one side only its volume decreases. The
audio of that track does not move to the side. I have to use the
headphones many times in the mixing to get the stereo imaging. Which
is OK, as I like to get the headphones point of hearing, but it'd be
nice to hear the stereo effect through the speakers also.
Any advice on how to use speakers so that it's possible to hear the
stereo imaging ?
Cheers.
Hello.
This is a synth piece that starts smoothly then goes into higher gear
with busy drums and bass over which a theme/synth lead hovers.
Made using the latest u-he Repro-5 synth and the Hollo Xpressive
soundset. Created in Bitwig, mixed in Mixbus32C. All in Linux.

Hi,
i'm currently looking for interfaces that have more than 16 digital
outputs for higher-order ambisonics
applications.
One of my requirements would be that they work with recent laptops, that
is laptops that don't have
expresscard or firewire interfaces, as those unfortunately aren't built
any more.
I've stumbled over a LAU post from 2016 where options were discussed.
There's the DiGiCo UB Madi that is reported to work, but the price is
ridiculous, and also it seems
rare/hard to be obtained or even out of production.
The RME Madiface USB aren't working at all (tried one of them myself).
So, the PCIe and ExpressCard versions of the RME MADI interfaces have
been reported working,
but has anybody ever tried to use them with USB-to-PCIe or
USB-to-ExpressCard adapters?
Otherwise, ase the market brought forth new options ?
Any advice is appreciated !
Best,
Niklas

Ted.
Just quickly, for fun. The context is a certain amount of people for
whom Repro-5 and 1 are not working on their Linux systems while on mine
they do. So I described my system and all that, and we exchange with
Alex from u-he who works on the Linux versions of the synths, and
then thought of posting some 'waiting room music' while a solution is
searched for.
So this is improvisation # 230. The synths are Repro-5 * 3, Zebra
(strings), ACE (for the bass), pianoteq 6 for the, ahem, piano, and
Biotek for the little buzzy critter.

Dear All,
has someone managed to run successfully focusrite-control.exe inside wine?
I'd really like to access the hardware mixer from Linux.
I have no windows installed on my Laptop, so I can't test whether there is
an issue with the usb ports.
I installed focusrite-control-2.1.7.exe in all kind of different ways,
using wine from kubuntu 17.10, and winehg-staging. All I managed is that the
programm opens and reports "No Hardware connected", same for the ASIO control.
I also tried the live version of io-live--2017.03--e22-k4.14-k4.14-rt1-amd64,
with the same result.
Opening winecfg I can switch to my Scarlett 18i20 and pushing the
button for testing sound it works. I've also installed OpenMPT1.27.02 inside wine
and it works nicely. There, I can even switch to 96kHz, which doesn't work on ALSA/JACK,
so something is done inside wine, not just passing to the outside.
Best regards,
Peter
