Hi eveyrone,
I recently had some issue concatenating audio fies of different formats (wav
and aiff), though of the same samplerate, channel-count and bit depth. It
complains about compressed aiff.
sndfile-convert can convert those files to wav easily. Is that to be expected?
Best wishes,
Jeanette

Hi
The first fix release of GxPlugins.lv2 is out.
The fixes are:
Fix Power switch use as bypass control (lv2:enabled)
Fix don't rebuild on make install
Fix GxVBassPreAmp dc overload in circuit simulation
Also it comes with the new GxSD1.lv2 pedal simulation.
GxPlugins.lv2 is a set of mostly analogue guitar pedal simulations as
LV2 plugins, simulated with the guitarix ampsim toolkit.
They contain the following plugs:
GxBottleRocket.lv2 - -> tube based preamp pedal
GxHotBox.lv2 - -> tube based preamp pedal
GxVBassPreAmp.lv2 - -> transistor based Bass preamp
GxSuppaToneBender.lv2 - -> transistor based Fuzz pedal
GxHyperion.lv2 - -> transistor based Fuzz pedal
GxVoodoFuzz.lv2 - -> transistor based Fuzz pedal
GxSaturator.lv2 - -> saturation plugin
GxVintageFuzzMaster.lv2 - -> transistor based Fuzz pedal
GxSuperFuzz.lv2 - -> transistor based Fuzz pedal
GxVmk2.lv2 - -> transistor based solid stage preamp
GxUVox720k.lv2 - -> transistor based solid stage preamp
GxSlowGear.lv2 - -> volume swell plugin
GxGuvnor.lv2 - -> transistor based overdrive pedal
GxToneMachine.lv2 - -> transistor based Fuzz pedal
GxSD1.lv2 - -> Op-amp based overdrive pedal
I hope they may be useful for the one or the other.
Build instruction and screenshots may be found here:

Hi everyone,
this is a script to make a dramatised reading from a plain text file, using
speech synthesizers on both Linux and MAC OS. Hear the software play it for
you. :)
https://freeshell.de/~silvain/software/story_maker-1.0rc1.tar.bz2
It works from the Linux terminal and only needs sndfile (sndfile-concat and
sndfile-convert) and optionally oggenc or lame to create a fully tagged
audiobook.
story_maker can use sapi4linux (sapilektor), espeak and festival on Linux and
the standard MAC OS voices (through say), which includes the InfoVox IVox
voices.
Features:
automatically find direct speech
interactively assign character names to direct speech passages
choose a cast of voices for your characters
save a full or partial cast and use it for other stories
automatically render on Linux and (optionally) MAC (using ssh)
optionally build a fully tagged OGG or mp3 file
I can't publicly supply my demo, since it uses proprietary voices, not meant
for published audiofiles. :( But it sounds OK. It's certainly better than
reading it at the computer scren or braille display and sounds much better
than plain old espeak. :)
I'd love to hear some feedback if you go for that crazy thing. <3
Best wishes,
Jeanette

Anyone know what's the problem?

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
Hi Chris,
Are you implying that your app will restart JACK when it is the condition I
describe?
On another note:
I cloned the git repository. Confirmed the depends.
My results following the README:
sudo make PREFIX=/usr install
pandoc -f markdown -t rst README.md > README.rst
/bin/sh: 1: pandoc: not found
Makefile:10: recipe for target 'README.rst' failed
make: *** [README.rst] Error 127
Or:
sudo make install-user
python setup.py install --user
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "setup.py", line 4, in <module>
import setuptools
ImportError: No module named setuptools
Makefile:24: recipe for target 'install-user' failed
make: *** [install-user] Error 1
Thanks!

FWIW, I updated to JACKD2 from testing last night. I use mplayer on command line to play through JACK. And get the same results.

Hi,
I'm doing some development work, so naturally (well, maybe it;s just me...)
and occasionally I attempt to run my code before I've started JACK.
After that it can not be started until I reboot, typical error:
09:59:57.411 Could not connect to JACK server as client. - Overall
operation failed. - Unable to connect to server. Please check the messages
window for more info.
Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory
Cannot connect to server request channel
jack server is not running or cannot be started
JackShmReadWritePtr::~JackShmReadWritePtr - Init not done for 4294967295,
skipping unlock
JackShmReadWritePtr::~JackShmReadWritePtr - Init not done for 4294967295,
skipping unlock
My question is what SHOULD i be doing in my code to prevent this?
(Obviously, I can start JACK in my code if it's not running...but, I've not
found any info on checking for JACK and starting it from python.
AND, how do, or can, I get JACK to start after this occurs without a reboot?

Mac
Hi,
I'm new on this list so I may have missed that these questions have already
been covered,
Is anyone using the RME ExpressCard with an external ExpressCard reader. The
Sonnet technologies is reported to work by RME on Mac and Windows but I
doubt it works on Linux? My current laptop does not have an expresscard
port.
Best,
Henrik

Hi.
I won't be able to make the scheduled meeting at c-base today. If
anyone shows up, then riot (c-base member) should be available between
20:00 - 20:30 to try organize whoever comes.
Cheers.

Hello,
This is about Jaki Liebezeit, drummer of the seminal 70s German band
Can, who passed away earlier this month. The piece was not made to
sound like Can. It was made with the 'thought of'.
