... Yet Another Sparrow
Apart from the new list of helpers attached to the 'About' window, there is
little visible change for most users, but the command line has now been greatly
extended.
Full details are in doc/Yoshimi_1.5.9_features.txt
As usual, there still is much to do, but progress is steady.

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.
ahoy all,
i have been doing some research into free/libre software and/or services for music distribution. my preferences are a *customizable* static HTML+CSS+JavaScript site (e.g. like the current crop of static site generators https://staticsitegenerators.net ) that i can host myself which allows streaming and free/libre downloads of releases/tracks. basically i am looking for a simple static site generator that is album/track/audio aware, though i am open to any solutions available.
my current list is small and all save one require a full-blown CMS+DB install:
* Pushtape http://pushtape.com
- currently only Drupal based
* CASH Music platform http://cashmusic.org
- PHP+DB requirement for self hosting
- also available as a free/beer service hosted by CASH Music with embeddable widgets
- currently no streaming support
* WordPress
- there are some freemium plugins for hosting a music store, etc. but again i am trying to avoid the setup+maintenance of a full CMS
* indieTorrent https://indietorrent.org
- online only service
- very interesting/cool manifesto https://indietorrent.org/docs/manifesto/
- not lots of activity but still kicking https://indietorrent.org/4rum/viewtopic.php?f=1&p=39#p39
- not specifically for self hosting but as it is open source it could be done
others (ReverbNation, Jamendo, Magnatune, Bandcamp, Bandpage, thesixtyone, etc) are all either non-libre, non-self hosting, etc.
if anyone has any items to add to this list, experience with a service, homemade solutions, etc. i would appreciate them sharing it. i figure since we all go through various amounts of trouble to follow our principles/passions/whatever by using free/libre tools when making music, sharing it would be no different.
thanks, w
Thinking about setting up a live streaming radio show for a local theater
group. Figured I'd start here with my research.
Does anyone do this with Linux? What app do you use?
How about video?

I have a question for any people who make use of this.
Recent work means that in the latest builds some deep access into the synth
engines is now possible with the status of all context steps being echoed to
the prompt line so you know where you are.
However this can get very long, so I'm wondering if it would be better to have
a status line followed by a normal "yoshimi>" prompt. As has already been
pointed out, this would then tend to orphan the last command actioned from the
prompt. Currently, using minimised commands from the top level:
's p add voi env fre on'
reports:
'Part 1 Kit 1 Add Voice 1 Frequency Enable Env Value 1.000000'
and gives a new prompt line:
'yoshimi Part 1 on, Addvoice on, freq Envel on>'
Bear in mind that the report is what you did, and the prompt is where you are
(although there is considerable overlap).
If you now do:
's at t 80'
the report is:
'Part 1 Kit 1 Add Voice 1 Amp Env A dt Value 80.000000'
but the prompt line is still:
'yoshimi Part 1 on, Addvoice 1 on, amp Envel>'
We need to tidy up the responses, and intend to shorten the report line to just
the control changed and its new value, as the steps to reach it will be in the
prompt. Or should they be? That's my question.
Another consideration is that the prompt is specific to the CLI but reports
might be directed to the GUI console!
Also, as well as blind users, we have at least one sighted user who runs
graphically but sends commands via the CLI wherever possible.
Finally, I'm sending this to both LAU and Yoshimi's own list as this is getting
into unfamiliar territory and I would like to get the widest possible user
views.

Hi,
i recently updated my Arch linux system, to to the following version:
Linux 4.18.6-arch1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT
Afterwards, i noticed that something has changed regarding the realtime
permissions
and that i had to install a new package called 'realtime-priviliges',
which i never needed before,
and subsequently add my main user to the 'realtime' group.
In that wake, i updated the processor microcode, which i didn't use at
all before (there always was some
error message during bootup, but nothing else).
After being able to start JACK in realtime again, i felt that there was
a significant loss of performance.
Things that didn't cause any dropouts before now start to crackle and
gristle (as a sidenote, i mostly
use SuperCollider to make sound).
Also, and this puzzled me especially, there were dropouts, but no XRuns
... normally, when i push the
system to the limits, i get XRuns, that'd be expected. But now, it's
dropouts without, and they start way
earlier.
My machine has an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHz Processor if
that info is of user for anyone ...
Anybody else noticed something like that recently ?
Best,
nik

Hi,
what would, in your opinion, be a recommended USB Audio Interface for
multitrack studio recording?
In the past, I was happy with M-Audio Delta 10/10. It was using a
PCI-Extention Card. Now, I'm searching for a replacement using USB.
It could have fewer IO-Ports and I need no Effects-Processing on the
card. Important is, if possible, out of the box connecting via jackd and
channel adjusting via alsa mixer.
Thanx for hints,
Joerg

Hello!
I've been using Dexed for about 18 months now, and a couple of versions
ago, it suddenly started behaving badly. Essentially, notes get "stuck"
on (as if they've not received a NOTE-OFF event), and even sending
ALL-NOTES-OFF events doesn't unstick them. The only way to unstick them
is to toggle the MONO switch on and off in the sequence (apparently
this sends an ALL-SOUNDS-OFF event internally).
I've filed a report here:
https://github.com/asb2m10/dexed/issues/152
.. But it's kind of awkward to reproduce. I've only been able to get it
to happen after I've gotten part way through writing a piece. I don't
have this problem with any other instrument, so it does appear to be
Dexed-specific.
Is anyone else able to reproduce this problem? The easiest way would
appear to be to grab the something.zip file attached to the bottom of
the ticket and run it in Rosegarden. This assumes that you have Carla
and Dexed installed (as a VST plugin).
Failing that... Is anyone else this having problem with Dexed at all? I
see it in all the major sequencers, and sometimes just when playing
with a MIDI keyboard.
