[LAU] Steinway_IMIS2.2 soundfont (no loops fix)

This is Steinway_IMIS soundfont, version 2.2. ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/sf2/Steinway_IMIS2.2 This version fixes the issue with loops. I hope this is the good one and there are no more remaining major bugs. Marcos is a little busy right now, so he asked me to make this fix. He is thinking to make other improvements, so expect more updates soon.

[LAU] Raspberry PI and PISound

[LAU] LinnStrument on Linux

Dear list, I recently bought a LinnStrument from Roger Linn Design: http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/linnstrument.html It is a great isomorphic midi-controller, and as such it is immediately recognized on Linux. The distinguishing feature of the LinnStrument is that it senses 3 degrees of freedom on each note: x-direction, y direction and z-direction (pressure). The x-direction is mapped to pitch-bend, and y-direction to CC74. A cool feature is the "slide", where the pitch-bend is used to slide between all notes in a row. To allow individual pitch and CC74 values for each note, it sends each note on a separate midi-channel ("MPE"): http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/implementing-mpe.html Bitwig has added support for this, and there is 20 presets in version 1.3.11, where this is used (tag: linnstrument). The LinnStrument controller is not recognized automatically on Linux in version 1.3.11, but it can be configured manually, and then it works fine. Note that both midi-in and midi-out has to be configured, if not there is no sound! It should look like this: https://ibin.co/2msBJVgpKtf9.png Now I would like to also use it with the free Linux synths. Here's what I have been able to make work this far. Synthv1: PME works reasonably well: I can play polyphonic in MPE mode, but it tends to miss the "note off"s. I can get the slide to work, by setting <param index="36" name="DEF1_PITCHBEND">2</param> <param index="78" name="DEF2_PITCHBEND">2</param> is a preset. Zynaddsubfx: I can not get MPE to work. Sending only on one channel, and setting PWheelB.Rng to 2400 cents, I cant get the sliding to work, but only when playing with one finger. If I enable MPE on the LinnStrument there is only an occasional sound, when it happens to send on the channel, that Zyn is listening on. I'll love to hear if other LinnStrument users have been able to do more with any of the free synths on Linux. All the best, Thomas

[LAU] JACK and Sound OpenFirmware?

Hi. With kernel 5.7, my system finally switched over to snd_sof_pci for the intenal card. I can use mpv and alike via alsa directly, but when I try to start JACK I always get the following message: ALSA: cannot set period size to 1024 frames for playback Adding the verbose flag to JACK doesn't make it any more informativ regarding this problem. With the old hda driver, JACK was perfectly working with a buffer size of 1024 (and less). Does anyone know what I can do to make JACK work with the internal card? Or at least how to debug what is actually preventing it from working? I am using a Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th Gen. -- CYa

[LAU] Need MIDI keyboard for Zoom Class

I will be teaching a music course via Zoom this semester and have a large number of audio examples from web pages that I will be playing from the FireFox browser. In addition, I have a MIDI piano keyboard controller and a MIDI input on my M-Audio 2496 soundcard, and I would like to occasionally play at this keyboard for the class with a piano timbre. What are the easy options to set this up? I need to easily go back forth between playing audio from Firefox (which I assume uses PulseAudio) and the synthesizer that this MIDI keyboard will be triggering. [LAU] Noise generation plugin recommendations?

Hi, I'm looking for Ecasound-compatible plugins (e.g. LADSPA or non-GUI LV2) that do various types of noise generation. I've found ones which generate white or pink noise, but I'd like something that goes beyond that: e.g. S&H (Sample & Hold) noise with variable parameters, or even other noise-like sound effects such as rattling sounds and the like. Could anyone give me any recommendations, or point me in the right direction? I'm very new to the Linux audio plugins world, so I'm probably missing an obvious approach re how to go about looking for such things. Thanks, and best wishes, Nikhil.

Hi Mamba release v1.5 is out Mamba is a Virtual MIDI keyboard with some extended, unique features. So it could load/play and save MIDI files, it visualize the played files on the keyboard, were it use a unique color for each channel. you could visualize a single channel, or all together at once. It could record your playing and play it back as endless loop. You could record a loop for each channel while the other channels still play. Note, that the loops don't be synced. So this is not for composing classic music, but to create Psychedelic Trance floors. Truly you could save your work as MIDI file and rework it in the DAW of your choice. It include controls for the fluidsynth reverb and chorus, and a selector to select a instrument/patch for each channel. To use it as a plain MIDI keyboard again, you just need to exit fluidsynth via the menu and connect Mamba with the synth of your choice.
