Trying to get 8 channel sound from Linux Mint and an Intel NUC

I am trying to get software control of 8 channels of audio over HDMI. I don't know very much about linux audio software and naively assumed I'd plug an HDMI into an audio converter/splitter and get 8 working outputs. What I get is silence. Someone here must understand this and I'd appreciate help! Here's everything I know about collecting. Sorry for the length or if it's insufficient. Status of a2jmidid

Hi, a2jmidid bridges alsa MIDI ports with JACK MIDI ports. It's a quite old and unmaintained? program. Is it still needed with recent JACK2 server or is there an alternative. I know JACK1 has this functionality built-in, what's JACK2 status? Thanks Guido Ciao

OT: Amazon Lab 126 and Linux

I just came across this job posting https://www.amazon.jobs/en/jobs/894336/applied-scientist from Amazon Lab 126 and am positively surprised that they are asking for experience with Alsa, Linux and realtime systems. Lab 126 seems to be an R&D lab contributing to products like Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV and Amazon Echo, the speaker for their Alexa service which suffers from severe privacy issues, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Alexa#Privacy_concerns Does anyone know if any of these devices are using Linux as their OS? A quick online research did not confirm nor deny this. Despite Echo/Alexa being a questionable product in my view, as for example described in https://www.engadget.com/2019/04/30/hey-alexa-how-can-we-escape-surveillanc… it would be a great example of widespread use of Linux in an audio product.

Immersive Audio, ADM and MPEG-H

Hi *, I am attending an MPEG-H workshop with the Fraunhofer IIS Soundlab. MPEG-H shall be used for immersive audio and assistive technologies in DVB technologies (and hopefully more). At the moment, there is no Linux plugin. Only au and vst. But, an engineer of Fraunhofer offered me that he would initiate a Linux plugin development if I can find more then three people, who are interested. I took this bet!
