I was building a new kernel under FC2 this morning trying to make FC2
equal to my Gentoo kernel which is working very well. I made a mistake
on this new kernel and forgot to turn on 'APIC contoller for UMP
machines'. When the kernel booted I got all sorts of xruns. The IRQ
was threaded, so I set it for non-threaded but still got a lot of
xruns. (>100 in 10 minutes)
I rebuilt the kernel where the only change I made was to enable APIC
interrupts and IO-APIC controllers for UMP. The kernel booted and has
been running for 30 minutes with no xruns...
Just another IRQ datapoint, but that was the only change I made...

This is something that has bugged me ever since I built my Linux DAW.
When I boot up, when I start jack, when I open a web page with
Flash, when I get a licq message -- anything that uses my audio
driver, I hear a fairly loud low-end pop.
Is this common? Is it a known issue I can fix? I figure it's a
problem somewhere in the following (backwards) chain:
Delta1010LT hardware (SPDIF out) -> Delta1010 alsa driver -> alsa
library -> jack.
I suspect it's not jack since it happens with other audio output as
well. I don't remember, but I don't think it was happening when I
was using the analog outs. Of course I can check that pretty quickly
when I get my Linux box hooked back up tomorrow.

I tried just 2.6.9-rc3-mm3 and I got it to boot, although kudzu pops
up but I cannot use my keyboard. Even to log in; I have to hit the
power button!
I thought I turned every possible keyboard on (AT and XT), as the
.config is copied from my current kernel: 2.6.9-rc3.

Has anyone else had this problem: e.g. no keyboard on 2.6.9-rc3-mm3?

I applied the patch and the kernel built, but like 2.6.9-mm2-VP-S9 it
crashed before it could load. The last bit of the message was a lot of
what I guess are frame pointers, but there was a few lines that had info.
For example an RIP message having to do with add_preempt_count+16
But it all ended with Aieee...
I have yet to get any VP kernel to run on my x86_64. I suppose I should
try just the mm3 or mm4 patches without the VP portion, so that is what
I will do.
Any other ideas?

QjackCtl 0.2.12a has been released.
Some fix on the audio connections client port sorting is about to justify
this immediate release.

The text based nature of the interfaces tend to lead to more flexibility
rather than less. The idea is to project the code as part of the performance
to allow the audience to see the relationship between the code and the music -
and remove the "are they just checking email" syndrome :) )

Sorry dude, maybe it's the end of the workday, but I
don't really get the joke if there is one. I didn't
think sound waves travelled in space. Are you talking
about background radiation from the BigBang translated
into analogous sound? Sorry I'm being dense. Cast
