I'm trying to get my Roland UM-2 usb to midi interface working on the
2.6.4 kernel. I have the kernels usb midi and usb audio turned off. The
alsa usb audio driver is a module.
I can access the device via /dev/midi01 meaning if I cat a midi file the
lights on the interface blink.
What I can't do is have Alsa see it. I would like to be able to use this
device under rosegarden or pmidi .
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong.

It is normal that the status has closed unless you are actually recording.
My G4 titanium uses the snapper chip, so we use the same kernel driver. What do
you have in /proc/asound/devices? I get:
1: : sequencer
0: [0- 0]: ctl
16: [0- 0]: digital audio playback
24: [0- 0]: digital audio capture
33: : timer
If you get a similar entry for capture, we should be able to get it going.
Make sure your "PCM 1" and "Monitor" entries are turned up in your mixer.
Like Derek I also have a lot of noise problems, but my best results so far
are with PCM 1 set to 75%-85% and Monitor set to 90%. I'm still puzzled how
these two relate.

Hmm, haven't checked out the Mac OS side yet. Will have to give that a try
sometime.

You could try a friendly mail to: linuxppc-dev(a)lists.linuxppc.org
I'm using the PPC specific kernels from: http://penguinppc.org/dev/kernel.shtml
so far with the same results you get (the 2.5 tree realy holds the 2.6 kernel now).
But any fixes will be in here first.

The FA-101 is based on the BridgeCo BEBOB, like a number of other products from
Apogee, Tascam and Presonus that were presented at NAMM. If we could get support
from one of these vendors it should be (relatively) easy to get them all working.
People also talked about the M-Audio FW410 on this list before. I know it uses
the DM1000 inside. Anyone know if FW410 is also based on BEBOB?
Is anybody in touch with BridgeCo, or any info wrt their stand on Linux?
But all this won't get us around the Yamaha connection management issue, will it?

[...Codito Ergo Sum...]
A quick note to say that I've just put together an interview with
Han-Wen Nienhuys and Jan Niewenhuizen, of the LilyPond project, and
it's now at http://www.linuxmusician.com/ .
The interview is pretty long and covers quite a few subjects, and I
think is a very interesting read. I'm very grateful to Han-Wen and
Jan for doing almost all of the hard work.

Thank you for the config. I'll try building on that.
I see you have the security capabilities on. Do you use the realtime module
I was talking about? Or do you use the capability/commoncap in a special
way? Are there some module parameters I should give to capability or commoncap?

I know it is quite OT, but I have tried many other ways to solve the problem.
Since ardour moved away from sourceforge I try to reach ardour.org and
lists.ardour.org, but I can't.
While list post from ardour-users did reach me for some time I got a message
that I have been unsubscribed due to bounces. Whatever I try to reach them
(confirmation mail, contacting listmaster, http, ping) gives me only errors.
I have tried for more than two weeks now, but never reached them...
I have no idea what might be wrong. Maybe ardour is on a blacklist or
something? BTW: I'm living in Switzerland if that could matter.
Can someone give me a *working* ardour URL or the IP of ardour.org or
lists.ardour.org or any other help to solve the problem.
Thanks a lot and forgive me to be off topic,
Robert Epprecht
It might help grounding your soundcard.

Hi,
I'm having problems with sound on my pc - a crackling sound. This only
occours when DMA is turned on and there is ide disc access. It seems to
be independent of the DMA speed. Also there is the same problem in
windows with the manufacturers drivers. Here are my PC specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7VRXP
Chipset: VIA KT333 / VIA VT8233A
Onboard sound: Creative CT5880, Sigmatel 9721T CODEC (using alsa
ens1371)
I have also tried out another sound card (but with the same driver) with
the same problems.
I have heard that a BIOS PCI Latency setting can help this problem but
cannot see this option in my bios.
Thanks,
Adam
