Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has written a RedHat-style init.d script for jackd. I
haven't had any luck looking for one on the net.
Thanks,
Austin

Salve a tutti!!
Lo so che è una lista in Inglese, ma dopo assurdi tentativi misono
deciso a scrivervi...
benedetta scheda e i relativi programmi?
ho letto che le alsa devono essere compilate nel kernel... devo
scaricarmene uno e fare il lavoro a mano???
sinceramente spero di no, ma se fosse l'unica via, vi chiedo ancora più
aiuto...
Scusate e grazie in anticipo!!
Stefano

Hi Ron,
The thread started with an inquiry about which soundcards support Soundfont on
their onboard synth chip, so it was perhaps not exactly what you thought it
was.
Though what you ask, syncing synths to software apps is probably involved :)
The sb-live card (and it's siblings, ancestors and children) is in essence a
low cost samplingsynth. By putting a bunch of these into a computer case I
guess you could construct a fairly well working "external" synth.
As for syncing, they would be controlled by midi, I'm not sure what you where
aiming at here exactly, all synths do that don't they?
Some of the cards have sp-dif, some of the newer even have firewire (or
sb-firewire whatever that means (probably that it's broken)) so in theory
they would have pretty good soundquality as well as sync possibilities...

Robert

Hi everybody.
I'm an italian bass player and I'd like to record a 4 songs demo for the band
I play in with my PC (with Linux obviously). I'm searching for someone who
can suggest me any documentation/book regarding this argument and/or share
with me his experience (the hardware/software used and so on ...).
Thanks in advance for your reply,
Marco.
Hi,
I am running 2.5.70 kernel with jackit from CVS. I got POSIX capabilities
compiled in but when I try to start jackstart I get :
cartman@southpark:~$ jackstart
jackstart: cannot get realtime capabilities, current capabilities are:
=ep cap_setpcap-ep
probably running under a kernel with capabilities disabled,
a suitable kernel would have printed something like "=eip"
So I wonder if is there anything that I need to modify in kernel source to get
this work because without --realtime alsaplayer skips sound everytime I open
a new program.
With Best Regards,

Hi,
Do we have any software tools for converting mtc to
midiclock?
I want to instruct a Korg Triton to play and it'll
only respond to midiclock.
I found a jlcooper datasync2 box but don't have a
manual for it. I'll play around with it some more.
Anyone else got one of these?
ron

If you're feeling adventurous you can try Ardour. Here is my page on setting it up (this isn't easy):

To hear some quick demos that I made with Ardour you can check out:

I installed Jack from Planet-CCRMA. I have a Soundblaster Live with RH
9.0. However, Jack doesn't seem to start completely.
I understand that I should be able to basically start Jack using
jackd -d alsa -d hw:0
or
jackstart -R -d alsa -d hw -r 44100
However, it stops at
jackd -d alsa -d hw:0
loading driver ..
creating alsa driver ... hw:0|1024|2|48000|swmon|rt
I think it should set up channels, etc. Jack-dependent apps complain
that Jack isn't working.
Several times, it has done this correctly, but I can't understand why it
worked then but doesn't now. As far as I can see, the ALSA drivers are
loaded and working.
I'm fairly new to ALSA, so I can't provide much more information than
this.
Could anyone offer any advice?

Hi all!
Some time ago I asked for a PCI soundcard which can deal with
*.sf(2) soundfonts and works on Linux. I was told "soundblaster live 512"
is a good choice. But this soundcard is unknown to all resellers.
(They know "soundblaster live 5.1", but I'm afraid it has no
hardware MIDI synthesizer.)
Now a reseller recommended "Audigy 6.1 platinum". Is there
anybody who has experiences with this type of soundcard?
Escpecially: Does the hardware MIDI synthesizer work on Linux?
Can I change the orchestra using "sfxload" ?
