Hi,
an AudioBox 1818VSL works when connected to a Linux PC, linux 4.9
with rt patch, as well as 4.8.13 with threadirqs, but if I connect
it to my iPad 2, iOS 9.3.5, the message "Cannot use Device AudioBox
1818VSL : The connected device requires too much power." appears.
Before I send the audio interface back to the dealer and order a
device from another vendor, I want to know, if this issue could be
fixed.

Hi,
The AudioBox is not designed to work as a recording interface to an
iPad.
The AudioBox 1818 must be properly installed to a supported Windows
operating system.
Linux is not a supported operating system.
You can install the Legacy 1.3 device drivers for the AudioBox
which supports the VSL mixing software. Then you can install the
AudioBox VSL remote app to you iPad and use this to control the VSL
mixing software. The VSL mixing software is for monitoring purposes
only. The VSL mixing software "does not" record audio.
To record audio you need to have your AudioBox properly connected
and installed to a computer and use a DAW audio recording software
like Studio One.

Let alone that even your homepage claims that the control software
is available for Mac Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El
Capitan, and Sierra, too. Sure, no driver, since it's class class
compliant, only Microsoft requires a driver.
So, you want me to return the device to my dealer and then my
company should buy the 50 devices and additional gear we need from
a competitor of your company?

Hi list,
starting jackd1 after connecting a motu ultralite AVB sound card throws
below error. The second startup attempt works then. What could be wrong?

I'm thinking of doing some home studio recording using a set of (yet to be
purchased) bluetooth headphones as monitors.
​Before I do a bunch of work on this ...
- I have a cheapie (under $5 from China) USB adaptor. Seems to be working
fine. Would a better one make a difference for my purpose?
- I tired some expensive Bose headphones and they seems to lose the
connection a lot. But, I have my cell phone in the other room right now and
the computer is playing an audio stream just fine. So, are some devices
just shitty at maintaining a connection?
- Is there a latency issue if I start to monitor something on the computer
while playing (I play sax)? I've done this is wired phones and it all
worked quite well ... but I nearly killed myself due to bad cable
management :)
- Bluetooth works with jack?

i'm using it for my MIDI controllers since i've bought Novation
Launchpad which does not have DIN sockets.
currently 3 of them (Novation Launchpad, Novation ReMOTE Zero SL, Korg
PadKontrol) are connected via powered USB hub (Logitech) to one USB
port, and audio interface is connected to another USB port.
running this setup with AV Linux kernel (which is the best one of
those i tried for audio production purposes) and can't remember any
issues with it.

Intermediate result:
Analog out 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and
ADAT out 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 are available, there is audio
output.
Outputs 9, 10 are not tested.
I did listen to one after the other, not to all at the same time, so
they might or might not be in sync.
ALSA mixer is useless, the channels are stereo pairs, so you cannot
adjust a single channel. I don't care, I keep them at max output
and use the DAW's mixer, since you anyway can't rout monitoring. The
analog outputs 7 and 8 are assigned to the phones output, if you want
to use head phones, then you need to use jack to route all channels to
7 and 8. IOW seemingly you need to decide, if you want 8 analog outputs
or 6 outputs and headphones. "Main" seems to be unused. ALSA mixer
allows to set up the clock, available are "ADAT", "SPDIF" or "internal".
I chose "internal" and sync the ADA8000 by wc.
I made a Qtractor loop with 16 instances of fluidsynth DSSI and 2
instances of hexter DSSI, IOW just MIDI, no audio tracks. I used one
output of each DSSI instrument, by jack I assigned 9 DSSI outputs to
playback_7 and 9 DSSI outputs to playback_8.
Usually I use rt patched kernels, for the test I'm using a default
kernel from the official Arch repositories.
The CPU is an AMD dual-core 2.1 GHz, on an ASUS M2A-VM HDMI mobo,
without the HDMI thingy mounted.
Very seldom I get an inaudible xrun (quasi never) with the below jackd
settings.

I have a UCA202 and a powered USB hub. Connecting the 202 to the hub gives me a noticeable power hum that doesn't happen when connected directly to my laptop or to the hub without the hub PS connected.
It's a cheap hub - but something to be aware of.

I have 3 different PC's (one desktop, two laptops) running Ubuntustudio
16.04.
On the desktop I rarely do any capture. It uses jack/ffado/zita-lrx to
output to a AF12 as a tri-amped playback system. No issues, just works.
On the older laptop (Dell XPS1530) I routinely switch between the on-board
sound and up to 32in/8out from/to an X32 via USB. Sometimes setup to input
from the X32 and output to onboard sound. All configs with jack, again, no
issues, just works.
On my newer laptop (System76 coreI7) I can use the onboard sound with, for
example, Clementine set to output to alsa or pulse and it works fine. If I
attempt to use Ardour at the same time with it's own alsa the combined
output (if Ardour and Clem are playing) audio is distorted. Separately fine.
If I attempt to use jack, for example use qjackctl to start jack. Qjack
just hangs. To stop it I jhave to use kill -9. If I then start qjack, it
shows the I/O connections (pulse source/sink and capture/send). But if I
send audio to it from Ardour (to jack) or Clementine (jack or pulse) the
audio sounds like it's in slow motion. If I plug in the usb from the X32,
start qjackctl, set the I/O device to the X32 usb, viola, works just fine
for only the I/O ports exposed by the X32 USB. Any attempt to use mixed I/O
(as described for the Dell above) results in qjack and jackdbus hung and
only kill -9 will stop them.
I don't HAVE to have this work, but it is nice to be able to plug
headphones into the PC to monitor whats coming into Ardour from the
X32...but, I'm wondering if I'm missing something simple, or this is just
the way this particular combo of hardware is going to work.
Trouble shooting suggestions? Or, just leave it as an unsolved mystery? ;)
