Wondering if there's a command line (scriptable) recorder for Jack
which will record for a configurable duration. Because:
I've been using Jack TimeMachine to record in its default 'w64' format
and then converting to wav with sox like:
sox --no-clobber -S tm-2020-10-27T22:00:15.w64 -b 16 /home/john/2710.wav
It all works well and sox stat shows min and max amplitude -0.9 and 0.9
I need to make the recordings automatic and arecord seems to fit the bill
with its ability to record for a number of seconds with -d, but the level
seems much lower. I used PulseAudio Volume Control to get something like
a good level with 150% on the input sliders (10.53dB) and I still only
see around -0.5 and 0.5 using sox stat. They only go up to 11dB.
I don't like pushing levels that far and it isn't enough anyway. Something
seems very wrong with Pulse / Alsa although Jack uses Driver: alsa.
PAVolume Control > Input Devices shows UltraLite AVB Multichannel
Port: Multichannel Input
Front Left (where the inputs levels are)
Front Right "
6 other position channels (showing no input level)
16 Auxiliary channels "

Thanks again,

I've got an opportunity to pick up a Behringer Wing relatively cheaply if
I'm quick. So, obvious questions first: Has anyone got experience of the
Behringer Wing with Linxu and indeed Ardour?
A quick google seems to suggest that it should work, but I need to move
fast so haven't much time to dig any further.
Any cries of "Stop! This Won't Work!"
As background, I've had an eye on the MOTU AVB stuff for a while but I'm
concerned by the stories of "bitcrusher" problems and firmware updates
crippling the Class Compliant mode. Behringer seem friendlier towards
Linux.

Hi,
I try to understand why sysex go through jack MIDI sometimes, and
sometimes they are lost. I am aware that jack has a limit for the
maximum message size per period, but I am playing with program dump of
my Nordlead which are only 139 bytes -- definitely not huge.
I am running jackdbus with a2jmidid, through Catia. My system is Debian
+ kxstudio.
When I try an application with native jack MIDI, such as Reaper (with
jack backend) or MuSE, I can record sysex successfully, but when I play
it, it never reaches the hardware.
With applications using ALSA sequencer (tested with qtractor and
Rosegarden), I can record and play successfully sysex using ALSA.
However, I cannot record nor play sysex when connecting jack MIDI ports
instead (jack MIDI wrapper ports from a2jmidid).
Is this the expected behavior? Are we stuck with ALSA when we are
dealing with sysex messages?
Bonus question: is it possible to be warned when jack is dropping sysex
messages?
Thanks!
-a.
I have mplayer set up to connect to JACK. Now I have zita-mu1, with the
idea of having a single volume control for the output. But everytime
mplayer starts, it connects to JACK, bypassing zita-mu1.
Ideas?

There are no new features at all in this release! It is a maintenance one, with
a few bugfixes and quite a lot of code refinements, preparing for bigger
things :)

Hi all,
I have made a first preview of Power Station Industrializer v0.2.7
You can download it here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/industrializer/files/
What is new in psindustrializer-0.2.7:
Improved accuracy of setting some parameters
Rendering and playback can be interrupted. Playback can be
retrigged at any time
Both actuation and sampling nodes are made selectable (Hint: you
can use this facility to generate great stereo samples. Although
PSIndustrializer doesn't support direct stereo samples saving yet, you
can manually save two samples with the same model and parameters, but
different sampling nodes. Then map them to right and left channels and
have fun!)
Bugfixes
As always, bugreports and feature requests are welcome!
Regards,
Yury.
Hey hey,
for a project I am wondering, if the absolute output volume of a pair of
headphones, directly connected to a soundcard, can be gained from the
settings?
I have a Delta 1010. Inside alsamixer the volume for the DACs is set in dB. Is
there a straight relationship between these settings and a connected output
device? My pair of headphones, IIRC, have a resistence of 60 Ohm.
Any help is appreciated. A good pointer will do. If there is a method without
special measuring equipment, I'd be happy. If not... So be it.
Best wishes,
Jeanette
