I don't do email, contact management, or syncing with emacs, but I bet
you someone does, and I guarantee you can do some crazy things like
use emacs's SES (simple emacs spreadsheet) to edit in contacts. And,
you wouldn't have to touch the mouse.
I use Gnus for Email and nntp. Don't really do "contact management"
with Emacs. There ebdb and org-contacts for that, apparently. No idea
how useful either would be.
