ST Audio is the only really good source of fixes for the VIA
"problems". M Audio has nothing on the subject and when I asked them
about it they were apparently unaware that there were any problems. The
Delta 1010, 1010LT, 2496, Terratec EWS88MT, and all of the ST Audio
DSP24 cards are envy24 (ice1712 driver) chipset cards. If you're going
to use a motherboard with the VIA chipset (as I do) you need to check
out ST Audio's pages.

I guess that issue is directly related to Linux support for the
chipset? RME has quite a bit of information on using this board with
the Athlon XP on their site. I guess their recommendations apply to
Windows users.
If not NVIDIA, then what? VIA is bad too, right?
And at the
staudio.com there's lots of info on the via chipset having
problems with these low latency cards. Their cards the DSP24 are ICE1712 based,
for what is worth. Havent checked at the m-audio.
My setup is an AthlonXP1600+ nForce chipset and was working ok with DMA enabled
disks (ATA100 or ATA133, not sure). C-pot2000 DSP24.
