Wow, its closed source, its payment soft...
But Dudes.....that i will try
even thought about getting a mac 4 that..
sure some parts are closed source, but the whole project is really very
friendly and well-behaved wrt its open-source roots. the primary author
is very active in the ardour community, and most of mixbus is developed
out in the open (you can check out the source svn from
ardour.org).
iiuc, the only exception is a binary-only ladspa plugin blob that
contains harrison's proprietary mixer strip functionality.
i'd say the ardour community is getting a fair deal: the harrison brand
can be relied on to raise a few eyebrows in the industry, and open
source audio has been featured prominently in major magazines etc since
harrison has partnered with ardour (as had happened before with the
xdubber product).
plus if i read paul's announcement right, some share of the mixbus
revenue is being contributed back to ardour.
so kudos to harrison for showing how to make a successful product based
on free software, and playing very fair in the process. i wish them all
the best.
