Why?
Basically because unstable is sometimes a bit too unstable for me (and
stable is too old, or at least was a month ago...).
You know, that stable is quite current now, don't you? And that there
is a thing in between and that is called "testing", which I ran the
last year and it has always been quite comfortable.
Let's see. The impression I get (from my LUG, for
instance) is that
quite a lot of hardcore debian/gentoo users have switched, and are
praising ubunto quite a lot.
I think, if your main interest is audio, then A/Demudi is a better
choice. Or run Debian stable/testing with some packages from Demudi.
Ubuntu seems to be very focused on the "general desktop user", which
is not necessarily the same as the audio oriented user. And why not
try to add some Ubuntu sources to your apt-configuration? Ubuntu seems
to take good care not to conflict with Debian upstream, so this might
work well.
Regarding realtime performance: I doubt, that Ubuntu will give you
better performance that stock Debian. A/Demudi however will.
Ciao
