Basically, I have the following:
2 - instrument microphone (XLR)
1 - vocal microphone (XLR)
1 - keyboard w/ midi interface
I want to do some multitrack recording, using anywhere fmro 2-4 of the
above items at once. I am getting ready to start building a dedicated box
for this. So, what kind of hardware should I be looking at? I'm looking
for something somewhat inexpensive (RME Hammerfall was about $600, Midiman
delta 1010 LT was closer to $700, both too much).
You might get a card with less input channels. 4 channels or even just
stereo might be enough. I mean, you're doing 'multi'track i.e. you can
record in several steps and mix that together with something like
ecasound. But if you want to record with 3 mics at once, you need 3
channels. This means, you need 4 channels as I don't know of a card
with just 3.
You obviously need midi input, which is nice anyways, but
you could also buy a usb-midi-cable. A soundcard with midi included is
cheaper, though.
Also, should I be looking at any additional items like
a mixing board,
amplifiers and such? I would greatly appreciate any ideas, thoughts,
hints, pointers, links!
If you use more than stereo, you probably need a mixer (which is, why
I only have a 2-channel-card used via my hifi amp.)
ciao
